High Bridge Jewellers' Bourton-on-the-Water 10k
28th February 2010 - 10:30 am
Fortunately the predicted torrential rain and strong winds held off for the Bourton 10K this Sunday, 28th February and whilst the runners, marshals and spectators had to contend with cold and rain, at least it was better than expected. The results for the 2010 race are now available.

Tom Payn from Winchester and District was the run-away leader, having opened up a considerable gap after the first two small loops of the village. He extended this throughout the race and stormed in for his win in 30:33 almost two and a half minutes ahead of the 2nd placed John Parker who sprinted for the finish against Will Fergusson, both from CLC Striders and both recording 32:58.
Only just off the first 3 were Julian Wilkie and Darren Jordan of Cheltenham & County Harriers in 4th and 5th, recording 33:03 and 33:13.
Dennis Walmsley of Bourton Roadrunners had an exceptionally good run and although a Vet 45, he beat all the Vet 40s to record 34:08. Brian O'Connor of Woodstock Harriers 35:35 and Jon Mansfield of Tewkesbury AC 36:01 finished 2nd and 3rd Vet 40s.
Lewis Gray of Bourton showed fantastic form, knocking a full minute off his previous best time to record 36:05 and win the Under 18 category.
In the Senior Ladies race it was a similar story, with Gemma Turtle of Gloucester AC finishing 9th in the race overall and first lady in 33.46, more than three minutes ahead of 2nd place, Jude Craft of Headington in 36:46. Third place was Kate Jacobs of Swindon Harriers in 37:02, followed by Laura Kent of CLC first Vet 35 with a personal best of 37:34. Steph Lane of Bourton Roadrunners finished 4th senior lady in 37:47.
Jane Wassell of Cirencester had a good race for 2nd V35 in 38:13, as did Michelle Parson, Evesham Vale, in 39:33, 1st LV40.
Cheltenham Harriers won the Men's team with 39 points, while CLC Striders took the Ladies team prize.
For this year's race our nominated charity is Kate's Home Nursing, which was set up to help patients and their families in their own home through the last stage of illness. It's Registered Charity numbers is 1059680. Thank you for helping us to support it.
Bourton Roadrunners were delighted to be able to hand over a cheque for £1207 to Kate's Home Nursing on Thursday April 1st. This amount was made up 50% by generous donations from runners taking part in the recent Bourton 10K in February and matched 50% from the Club. The invaluable charity provides patients and their families with qualified nursing support in their own homes throughout the last stage of illness 24/7.
Race Organizer Ian Shoemark, together with other club members, met the two representatives of Kate's Home Nursing, Phylis Kelly and Val Davies, who were both initially involved with the charity through personal experience, which consequently inspired them to become fund raisers, to present them with the cheque.
