London Marathon - 21 April
Bourton Roadrunners had some outstanding results at this year’s London Marathon. 11 members took part, several of whom were also raising money for worthy causes. Mike Smith ran a blistering 2:32:55 (the fastest marathon time of any Gloucestershire runner this year), finishing 52nd overall and 3rd MV45.
Ian Macdougall also had fantastic race, with 2:48:47 and a top-500 place. Tim Heming ran a perfectly paced sub-3 hour race, with 2:59:06.
Steve Edwards (Godfather of Marathon running), Ewen Smith (bravely battling calf injury) and Claire Harrison (ever-improving), ran together for much of the race, providing mutual encouragement and support. Steve finished in 3:13:55, Ewen in 3:17:00 and Claire in 3:20:05.
John Gibson achieved 3:43:35, despite struggling in the latter stages of the race (not unusual in a marathon!), and David Hanson finished in 4:43:32.
Congratulations to the 3 Bourton runners who were running their debut marathons at London: Catherine Wheeler (3:56:00), Emma Pinkham (4:28:46) and Vicky Davidson (4:52:27).
Brighton Marathon - 14 April
The previous weekend was the Brighton Marathon, with a field of over 9000. Andy Chapple had a superb race, finishing in 3:01:32 and achieving 3rd place in his age category.
Steve Edwards ran 3:14:03 (and, quite rightly, was awarded substantially more coverage in Channel 4’s event programme than the winners were!).
