Gloucestershire Cross Country League Round 2.
Mill End. Arlingham
Saturday 10th December 2022.

The 2nd Round of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League took place at Milton End, Arlingham near Frampton on Severn. This was a new course over undulating farm land sandwiched between the banks of the River Severn. The weather was lovely and sunny but extremely cold with the ground being solid and icy and runners had to be very aware of rutted areas where it would be very easy to turn an ankle.

This did not deter a core contingent of our keenest runners from again representing and supporting the club in Competition. We needed a strong showing from the U13 boys to hold onto their current 2nd place from the 1st round. Unfortunately we did not have enough runners to form a team in the other age groups but this did take any pressure off the other runners taking part but they certainly gained experience of this new course especially if used again next year.

Boys and Girls now take part in the same race which is so much better as this increases the numbers in each race but they are separated on results. In the U11 Race we only had Pippa Krzywiec and Will Harvey take part, several members down on the 1st round. Both Pippa and Will put in strong performances for 10th and 9th places respectively. Both gained valuable experience for next year.

In the U13 boys race we had a very strong contingent representing the club. Edward Hare has been training very regularly and this certainly showed just missing out on a top 3 with a superb 4th place overall. Joe Shaylor was not far behind in 7th , again a runner competing at a high level after some excellent results in the recent school competitions. More importantly both runners have just moved up to the U13 age group. Lucas Hartley twisted his ankle badly in the previous round and was lucky to be fit to run on this occasion but did and although suffered a little on this unforgiving course did really well to finish 8th overall. These three runners did well enough to bring the club home easily in 2nd on the day and stay in 2nd place overall at this stage.

Thomas Harvey was our 4th runner home in 13th place in the U13 boys competition and always put in a strong performance. He was closely followed by Ollie Robertson in 15th place who is a relatively new member who has found this is the sport he loves and this is showing in a relatively short time. He was closely followed by his friend Noah Alyn-Jones in 16th place who closed the gap on his friend from the 1st round, nothing like friendly competition. These three boys brought the BRR Junior U13 boys team in an excellent 4th place, not far behind the A team. Bella Harrison was our only runner in the U13 girl competition and again is showed her ability with an impressive 13th place overall.

Harry Shaylor and Ned Harrison represented Bourton Roadrunners in the U15 boys competition and after both boys not being in their best shape due to illness over recent times are certainly getting back to full fitness with each race. The intention was to use this as a training run but both boys showed they are well on the way back with a very good 12th and 15th place overall. The 3rd Round of the Cross Country League takes place at Pitville Park, Cheltenham on Saturday 18th February 2023.

Gloucestershire Schools Cross Country Championships.
Newent Community School.
Sunday 4th December 2022.

The Gloucester Schools District Cross Country Championships took place at Newent Community School on Sunday 4th December 2022. This was the same venue as the year before using the same courses. Although there was no long steep hill like St Edwards the course was undulating with long steady hills that were tougher than what they looked. This did catch a few runners out if they did not get their pace right. 

In the Minor Boys Race Joe Shaylor carried on his great form with a very good 8th place and could not have paced the race any better. Freya Parkes put in a storming performance for 9th in the Junior Girls Race again getting her pace right. They both have a chance of running in the South West Championships but only the top 6 were guaranteed places on the day although the county can take 10 runners. Hannah Roddick has just returned to the club and despite turning her ankle in the later stages of her race did really well to finish 22nd. 

Gloucestershire Cross Country League Round 1.
Cirencester Park.
Saturday 5th November 2022.

The first race in the league took place at Cirencester Park on 5th November 2022 and Bourton Road Runners Juniors had a good start to the season. After all the rain the ground was still fairly firm at this very demanding venue, a proper cross-country course with plenty off hills and lots of twists and turns. All the races today were very competitive and well attended with many big clubs competing.

In the under 11 girls race Pippa Krzywiec had a very strong and determined race to finish 12th, she was well backed up by Octavia Scott-Plummer in 15th and in her first race for the club Jessica Barber did very well in 43 rd a good solid start. The girls finished 8th team on the day.

In the under 11 boys race Jack Roberts really stuck in well to finish an excellent 7th, the top ten were all very closely packed.

In her first race for the club Freya Parkes in the Under 13 Race ran very well to finish 19 h and she was followed in by Chloe Krzywiec in 33rd in a good run on this demanding terrine. Lucy Hillary is coming on leaps and bounds in the Under 15 race in a very impressive 5th today, this was very close and competitive race at the front.

The under 13 Boys team were the under 11 champions last year so a tough year for them as they are now the youngest in this new category. However, what a fine run by all of them to finish 2nd team on the day, Edward Hare 7th, Thomas Harvey 11th, Joe Shaylor 18th and Noah Alyn-Jones 27th, well

The Second Round is on Saturday 10 December at Milton End Arlingham, a brand new venue by the River Severn

 

Gloucestershire Schools Cheltenham District Cross Country Trials.
St Edwards School. Charlton Kings. Cheltenham.
Friday 14th October 2022.

The Cheltenham District Cross Country took place again at St Edwards Junior School at Charlton Kings, Cheltenham on Friday 14th October 2022. This event has been held there for many years and is known for its long steep hill that is a shock to most runners who have not run hills before. However, to qualify for this event you would have needed to be one of the best ten runners from your school.

To qualify to run in the Gloucestershire Schools District Champs at Newent on the 4th December, runners would need to finish in the top 12 of their race.  The race age groups were Year 7 (Minor), Year 8 & 9 (Junior), Year 10 & 11 (Inter) and Year 12 & 13 (Senior). If they finished just outside the top 12 there was always the chance, they could be called up as a reserve.

Bourton Roadrunners had several runners who qualified for this event from several different schools including the Cotswold School and Chipping Campden and on the day they did really well.

In the Minor Boys race Joe Shaylor came a superb 3rd place in one of his best races to date. Chloe Krzywiec and Freya Parkes who finished 6th and 7th respectively in the Minor Girls also did really well. All four qualified to run in the County Champs. Bella Harrison was up with Chloe and Freya at the early stages of the race but started feeling very unwell and dropped back but bravely finished the race in still a very respectable 29th place.

In the Junior Boys Race Lucas Hartley 14th and Harry Shaylor 20th just missed out but both boys had been suffering bad colds over the past few weeks which is a shame as both boys had great chances of qualifying. There was an outside chance of Lucas being called up as a reserve but unfortunately this did not happen. Thomas Harvey also did well with a strong run for 23rd, just behind Harry. 

Bourton Hilly Half Fun Run.
Sunday 19th June 2022.

This is the first year that a Fun Run was included at the Bourton Hilly Half Marathon. The location was the picturesque Greystones Farm Nature Reserve and featured a  two-lap off-road route around Greystones Farm taking  in parts of the Wildlife Walk and Timetravel Trail, passing the Salmonsbury Fort twice.

Due to the event taking part on Father’s day numbers were always going to be a little lower than normal but five Bourton Roadrunners took part in the race and did extremely well. Edward Hare won the race with Joe Shaylor very close behind in 2nd . Both boys always push it other in training and races but it was Edward who came out on top on the day. Ned Harrison and Harry Shaylor are more accustomed to the longer distances in training but also did well over this shorter course for 5th and 7thoverall.  Pippa Krzywiec (U11) who was one of our younger runner's on the day and was not only first girl but also 6th overall, brilliant result and a very exciting prospect for the future. Sam Shaylor was our youngest runner on the day and finished in an excellent 15th place, impressive as this was his very first race and the furthest distance he has ran to date.

 

Bourton Roadrunner Winter Cross Country Competion Award Presentation.
Tuesday 31st May 2022.

The medals and trophies for the Junior Winter Cross Country Competition were presented by club Chairman Chris Dry prior to training on Tuesday 31st May. Members needed to run at least three out of the four races in the Gloucestershire Cross Country League with the top three from each age group winning Gold, Silver and Bronze. All other who qualified won a runner's up medal. The overall girl and boy runner musty have run in all four rounds and had the lowest score after all positions were counted up. Due to Covid, numbers were much lower than normal but this did not stop the U11 boys from winning team Gold and the U13 boys winning team Bronze in the Gloucestershire Cross Country League.

U11 Girls: Gold - Bella Harrison. Silver - Pippa Krzywiec. Bronze - Eleanor Jones.

U11 Boys: Gold - Joe Shaylor. Silver - Kipp Stevens. Bronze - Will Harvey.

U13 Girls: Gold - Lucy Hillary.

U13 Boys: Gold - Harry Shaylor & Lucas Hartley. Bronze - Thomas Harvey. Runners Up - William Chalmers.

U15 Boys: Gold - Freddy Sansom.

Overall Champions: Pippa Krzywiec & Harry Shaylor.

There is also a 3, 5 and 7 Year Cross Country Award for any member who has qualified in a finishing position over consecutive years. If they miss a year then you have to start again. Due to covid we have allowed any member currently on the list to stay on the list for this year only. Any member who ran this year moved up the table. Therefore William Chalmers was awarded the 3 Year Trophy so very well done.

Special mention must be given to Edward Hare, Michael Astor and Alfie Sansom. Although they did not compete in enough races to qualify for this Competition they played a big part with Edward helping the U11 boys to team Gold and Michael and Alfie helping the U13 boys to Bronze.

Well done to all who took part and hopefully next season will have even more members take part.

Alcester 1K Fun Run.
Sunday 29th May 2022.

In perfect running conditions, Kipp Stevens led from the front in a 2-lap 1km race around the streets of Alcester, Warwickshire. Kipp built on a strong first lap leading the field of 50 home in winning position and stretching his lead all the way.  A great effort. Well done, Kipp!  

 

Primary School Cross Country Championships.
Market Harborough Showground
Saturday 26th March 2022.

Several Bourton Roadrunners ran at the Primary Cross Country School Nationals at Market Harborough on Saturday 26th March 2022 for Gloucestershire or Bourton Roadrunners. The event was well organised but the course was very flat and certainly not as interesting or demanding as the Loughborough course and the drone coverage as in the past was very much missed. Numbers were also quite a bit down on pre-covid times with approximately 150 runners in each race but sure this will increase greatly in future years.

In the Year 5 girls we had Octavia Plummer running for Gloucestershire and Pippa Kryzywiec for Bourton Roadrunners. Octavia came 3rd in the trials and ran well on the day for 89th, bringing the Gloucestershire team home in 5th. She has only been running with the club for a few weeks and if she starts training regulary is going to be an athlete to watch for the future. Pippa goes to school in Oxfordshire and currently they do not field a team for the nationals so she ran for BRR to gain experience for the future. On the day she managed 122nd which was a good result for her first Nationals.

Jack Roberts ran in the Year 5 boys for Gloucestershire and had an outstanding result on the day although he was exhausted on the finish line and had to have help from first aid although recovered very quickly afterwards. No wonder, he finished 7th for Gloucestershire in the trials but on the day finished 14th overall and first Gloucestershire runner home helping the team finish 5th overall. As with Octavia has only been training for a few weeks, so it will be extremely interesting on how he does in the Year 6 competition if he trains regularly.

Freya Parkes and Bella Harrison both ran for the Year 6 girls, Freya for Gloucestershire and Bella for BRR. Freya has also only just started running with the club and after qualifying in 10th place for Gloucestershire did extremely well to finish 96th on the day, helping Gloucestershire to 5th place. Bella has been recovering from Covid and just missed out for qualification for Gloucestershire so ran for BRR for experience. She finished 129th overall. Bella is an extremely strong runner and pretty sure she will finish much further up the field next year.

Kipp Stevens qualified to run for Worcestershire and as with Pippa, Warwickshire did not enter a team so Joe Shaylor ran for BRR in the Year 6 Boys competiion for experience. For his first Nationals Joe did extremely well with a strong run for 60th overall. Kipp also did very well for Worcestershire. After finishing 5th in the trials he finished 76th and 4th for Worcestershire helping the team finish in 9th place.

The majority of these runners were competing in the Nationals for the first time and would have gained massive experience and pretty sure that next sure all will be pretty keen to compete again next year and for those who took part this year will be very exciting next year. Especially if they train regularly and gain even more experience by racing regularly in the Gloucestershire Cross Country League and Scholl events.

Inter Counties Championships.
Loughborough
Saturday 12th March 2022.

The Inter Counties took place at Loughborough on the 12th March and Michael Astor and Felix Lindner both ran for Gloucestershire and did extremely well. Michael finished 72nd place in the U13 boys and was 2nd Gloucestershire runner back bringing the county home in 22nd place out of over 40 counties. Despite loosing a shoe and running most of the race with one shoe Felix finished an excellent 101st place and first Gloucestershire runner home.

Gloucestershire Cross Country League Round 3.
Old Down Country Park.
Sunday 5th March 2022.

The final race of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League took place at Old Down on Saturday 5th March 2022

At last, the sun shone on this beautiful but demanding course. The start was by the main manor house and gardens and then drops down steeply to the lake and woods but you have to come back up to the start again to finish your loop and in some cases many loops!

However, Bourton juniors coped very well with the demands of the course.

Under 11 Boys

Joe Shaylor 2nd, Edward Hare 3rd, Kipp Stevens 5th and Will Harvey 18th. What a fantastic performance by our under 11 boys’ team, they were in 1st team on the day. In the overall league they were in 3rd coming into today but after today’s race, they were league team winners taking the gold medal, a fantastic achievement. Individually in the league Edward Hare was 4th, Joe Shaylor 6th, Kipp Stevens 17th and Will Harvey 22nd. This shows it is never over until the final event.

Under 11 Girls

13th Bluebell Harrison, 14th Pippa Krzywiec and 17th Eleanor Jones.

They were 5th team on the day and just missed out on a medal in the overall league by finishing 4th. However, a very good performance considering they are up against big clubs such as Gloucester, Cheltenham, Bath …... Individually in the league Bluebell Harrison was 12th, Pippa Krzywiec 16th and Eleanor Jones 23rd.

Under 13 Boys

Michael Astor 3rd, Lucas Hartley 8th, Harry Shaylor 9th, Thomas Harvey 17th and William Chalmers 22nd. On the day the boys finished and excellent 2nd team and over all in the league they finished 3rd team taking the bronze medal against some from very tough opposition. Individually in the league Michael Astor was 4th, Harry Shaylor 9th, Lucas Hartley 11th, Thomas Harvey 19th and William Chalmers 23rd.

Under 13 Girls

Lucy Hillary once again produced a fine run today to finish 8th and over all in the league she was 6th in this very competitive category.

 A very good performance today and over all in the league as we look forward to next season with some great prospects for our club.

OTHER NEWS - February 2022.

After finishing 5th at the South Worcestershire Cross Country Champs, Kipp finished in a super 6th place in the Worcestershire County Championships and will now represent Worcestershire in the Primary School Nationals on 26th March at the Market Harborough Showground in Leicestershire.

Kipp Stevens finished 5th at his South Worcestershire Cross Country Champs on the 17th February and will now represent South Worcestershire at the Worcestershire School Games in March.

Sunday 13th February 2022.

Once again Bourton Road Runners juniors braved the terrible weather conditions, it rained from the minute we arrived until we left, and it was heavy rain and a very cold strong wind. The course was not particularly hilly but it was very muddy and slippery which drains your energy. We were very impressed by everyone who turned out to represent the club and as ever there were some fine and brave runs.

Under 11 Race
Boys- 5th Edward Hare, 8th Joe Shaylor, 21st Kipp Stevens, 24th Will Harvey.
4th team on the day, the 1st team was only 4 points ahead so a very close race.

Girls- 14th Bluebell Harrison, 16th Pippa Krzywiec.

Boys - 4th Michael Astor, 11th Harry Shaylor, 13th Lucas Hartley
2nd Team on the day.

Girls- 4th Lucy Hillary.

Unfortunately Freddy Sanson had a fall and was unable to finish the U15's boys race.

A fine run by all, some very good individual and team performances considering we run against some very big clubs such as Bath, Swindon, Cheltenham, Gloucester….

Gloucestershire Cross Country Championships.
Cotswold Farm Park.
Sunday 19th December 2021.

The Gloucestershire Cross Country County Championship took place at the Cotswold Farm Park on Saturday 8th January 2022. This was a welcome return to the Farm Park, an excellent venue, howeverthe weather conditions could not have been worse with heavy rain and a very keen wind. This did not deter some very competitive and large fields as this is a very popular venue.

Bourton Road Runners Juniors braved the conditions and produced some fine individual and team runs, being the county championships there were medals at stake. The courses were also very demanding and long with tough terrain as well as the terrible weather.

Under 11 Race

Lucy, Olivia, Michael and Felix have qualified to run for Gloucestershire at the Inter Counties in March. Harry may have qualified but lives outside Gloucestershire.

BRR JUNIORS - News & Results 2021 & 2022.

Open Short Cross Country Event.
Stratford Park. Stroud.
Sunday 19th December 2021.

Due to the Gloucestershire Cross Country League Round 2 being cancelled Stroud and District AC who were hosting the event kindly ran a Short Cross Country Event to avoid disappointment to those were looking forward to racing in the cancelled event. As we were keen to support the event we included this race as the second race in the Club Cross Country Competition, otherwise the Competition may have had to be cancelled.

The course was new to us but was undulating in a parkland location, quite technical, with several pinch points that could hold runners up if they were not careful. Walking the course before, definitely gave runners a big advantage. There were medals awarded on the day to the top three runners in each race which added extra incentive.

As numbers were quite low, boys and girl, in each age group ran in the same race which made each race more competitive and the chance for the girls to race the boys and give some of them a bit of a shock.

As in previous races the club was well supported and all who raced did extremely well.

U11 Race – 1.5KM approx.

Girls: Chloe Krzywiec 8th. Eleanor Jones 9th. Pippa Krzywiec 11th.

Boys: Kipp Stevens 8th. Will Harvey 9th.

U13 Race – 2km approx.

Girls: Olivia Poole 11th.

Boys: Lucas Hartley 3rd. Harry Shaylor 4th. Alfie Sansom 7th. Thomas Harvey 8th. William Chalmers 10th.

U15 Race – 2km approx.

Boys: Freddy Sansom 6th.

U17 Race – 4km approx.

Girls: Elsa Thwaites 2nd.

Silver medal to Elsa and Bronze for Lucas with several runners not far off. Well done to you all.

Gloucestershire Schools Cross Country County Championships.
Newent School.
Sunday 5th December 2021.

Olivia Roddick, Lucas Hartley, Elsa Thwaites and Harry Bradley all qualified to run at Newent School with hopes of qualifying for the South West Finals in February and the Nationals in March. The course is quite undulating in parts with a few  steady climbs.

All three runners did extremely well, pacing the race perfectly with Olivia and Lucas both finishing 6th in the Minor Girls and Boys race and Elsa finishing 8th in the Seniors Girls Race. All three qualify for the South West Finals and are also extremely likely to be chosen to run for Gloucestershire in the Nationals.

Felix Lindner has just started training with the club and managed a superb 10th place.

Unfortunately Harry Bradley was unable to run as he went down with Covid a few days before.

Gloucestershire Schools Cross Country District Championships.
St Edwards. Cheltenham.
Friday 12th November 2021..

Several Bourton Roadrunner’s qualified to run for their School in the Gloucestershire Schools Cross Country Championships at St Edwards School in Charlton Kings, Cheltenham. This venue is well know for its long steep hill, which is tough and demanding and in some age groups has to be run twice. The top twelve from each race then qualify to run in the County Championships at Newent on Sunday 5th December although they may move this to the top 15.

All runners ran extremely well on the day.

Minor Girls (Yr7):

Olivia Roddick 4th, Olivia Poole 32nd.

Minor Boys (Yr7):

Lucas Hartley 6th, Alfie Sansom 22nd, Thomas Harvey 48th, Liam Kay 49th.

Junior Boys (Yr8 & 9):

Harry Bradley 13th, Ned Harrison 15th, Harry Shaylor 31st

Inter Boys (Yr 10 & 11):

Gloucestershire Cross Country League Round 1
Cirencester Park.
Sunday 30th October 2021.

The first round of the 2021/22 Gloucestershire Cross Country League to place at Cirencester Park on Saturday October 30th 2021. This is a very demanding course, plenty of hills and with the recent heavy rain, very muddy. Bourton Road Runners took to the challenge very well with some fine runs. For many of our Juniors this was the first cross country race for well over a year, and this is a very competitive league with some big clubs competing.

In the under 11 boys race Joe Shaylor shows what tremendous potential he has with a very strong 19th today, this was a very fast and competitive race, a few seconds faster and he would have been in the top 10! as his experience and strength grow, he will be up fighting for the top places. He was pushed hard all the way by Will Harvey who coped with the conditions very well to finish 23rd, again only a few seconds behind Joe.

We had a good turn out in the under 13 boy’s race. Again, a very competitive race with only a few seconds between each runner. Harry Shaylor led home the boy’s team in a very good 15th, again lots more to come here. Alfie Samson as ever gives 100% as he continues to improve every season, he was just behind Harry in 19th. Thomas Harvey had a very strong run in 26th and was pushed hard by Noah Hancock in a fine 28th. William Chalmers is returning well back to form and finished in a solid 32nd. The boys finished 5th team on the day and with 3 rounds to go they are in a strong position.

The under 15 boys’ race was held on a particularly tough route which took in some long muddy hills and some very steep downhills, there was no let up. Ned Harrison worked his way through the field very well and he got stronger as the race went on, he finished a very good 17th. He had a good battle with his team mate Harry Bradley in 18th, as Harry’s stamina grows, he will be move up the field well.

Like the boys the girls had some very tough competition.

In the under 11 girls race Bella Harrison had a storming run, she had a good summers training and it paid dividends today with a top 10 position by finishing 9th, she seemed to glide over the mud. Chloe and Pippa Krzywiec both have fine running genes and they are so determined and committed, again they have trained well over the summer, they both finished with fine runs in 12th and 18th respectively, these are two to watch for the future and they get fitter and stronger. Good to see Elanor Jones racing again, she coped very well the conditions and battled well to finish 34th. The girls finished 4th team and with plenty of races to go they could climb into a medal position.

The under 13 girls like the boys had a tough course. Lucy Hillary is improving so much and showed what a natural talent she is with a very strong 5th today , she will move up the field as the season progresses. Olivia Poole worked so hard today and shows what a talent she is for the future in a fine 32nd today.

NEWS - September & October 2021.

Lucy at the Corsham 2km in Wiltshire on Sunday 26th September. It was a multi terrain event. Lucy ran a strong race. finished 1 U13, 1/16 female, 8/161 overall in 7:20. 

Bella Harrison took part in an inter-schools cross country competition for her Primary School on 5th October. She led for the majority of the race and was just overtaken at the end, but was very happy with how she did.

On Sunday 10th October Kipp ran the Alcester 1km race and managed an excellent 4th place. This was a fun run and no times were taken but was open for all age groups. As only an U11he did really well.

Awards Presentation for 2019.

Due to Covid 19 our Awards Presentation for 2019/20 Season could not go ahead in 2020 as it usually would have done. The decision was made to run it as soon as it was safe to do so and therefore took place in September 2021.

For the Athlete of the Year Competition points are given for Attendance, Personal Bests, Supporting the Club in Races and also helping at the two Club Races. The member with the greatest number of points is appointed Athlete of the Year but there are also Runner Up Trophie's a certain number of members behind the winner, this year 15. The Jack Oaky Trophy is awarded the the member with the highest number of points who have not won the trophy before.

Alfie Sansom was our overall Champion and also winner of the Jack Oaky Trophy. Runners Up Trophies were awarded to Jonathan Cook, Kian Dee, Freddy Sansom, Lucas Hartley, Harry Bradley, Ned Harrison, George Swayne, William Chalmers, Michael Astor, Kiya Dee, Reuben Long-Field, Eleanor Jones, Edward Jones & Arlen Hartley.

 

 

Members also accumulate points in certain races throughout the season with more important races having a greater number of points. The member with the greatest number of points wins the overall Race Champ Award. Runner Up Trophies are also awarded to those closest to the winner.

Jonathan cook was our overall winner with Alfie Sansom, Edward Jones, Ned Harrison, Kian Dee, Emily Field, Freddy Sansom, Lucas Hartley, Jake Astor, Michael Astor, Harry Bradley & George Swayne close behind.

 

 

We also run a Cross Country Competition with all member's who compete in at least three out of the four races in the Gloucestershire Cross Country League. There are U9, U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19 age groups for boys and girls. Gold, Silver and Bronze for the top three and Runners Up Medals for the rest. We also have an overall Girls and Boy Trophy for each girl and boy with the lowest aggregate score across all age groups who also competed in all four rounds.

Lucy Hillary and Michael Astor won the overall Trophies.

We also have a 3, 5 and 7 Year XC Award. These awards are given to any member who runs in at least 3 out of 4 races, every year for 3, 5 and 7 years. If they miss a year then it is back to zero.

Kiya Dee, Taka Dee, Kian Dee, Jonathan cook and Lucas Hartley were awarded the Three year Trophies.

Short Course Cross Country Championships. Kestrel Barn. Little Rissington.
Saturday 21st August 2021

The Short Cross Country Championships took part at Kestrel Barn at Little Rissington on Saturday 21st August 2021. The weather was not at it best behaviour and it did rain for the majority of the two races, one over a distance of approximately one mile for the U15 age group and younger and two miles for the other age groups. This did not deter a small group of Bourton Roadrunner Juniors who had just returned to training after missing well over a year due to covid.

In the U11 girls race Chloe Krzywiec ran really well for Gold and younger sister Pippa put in a really strong performance for 2nd and a Silver medal. Despite not being too keen on running in the wet, Daniel Bett ran well for 2nd and Silver medal in the U11 boy competition and in his first race for the club Kipp Stevens ran superbly for 1st and Gold.

Running in the U13 boys race William Neil put in probably one of the best performances of the day winning Gold and not far off the winning U15 boy despite only just moving up to the U13 age group. Despite very little training recently Elsa Thwaites put in a really strong run in the U17 girl competition winning a well deserved Silver Medal.

With several of the juniors missing due to being on holiday,  there would certainly have been even more medal winners on the day, especially as many had been training well since the club restarted in July.

NEWS - JULY 2021

 

Barney Hall took part in the local Greystones 10k Race on the 4th July and managed an excellent 3rd place overall. The undulating course was a mixture of road and track through the scenic Greystones Nature Reserve near Bourton on the Water.

On the same day Lucy Hillary ran extremely well in the  Cheltenham Harriers Young Athletes Open at the Prince of Wales Stadium. She managed  a new personal best of 2:39 in the U13, 800m race winning a Silver Medal for 2nd place.

The Bourton One Mile Challenge is usually well represented by Bourton Roadrunner Junior’s but due to the club being suspended due to Covid numbers were well down on previous years. A few dedicated runners did take part in the main race on Saturday 10th July with all doing extremely well. Barney Hall was our first junior runner home in 25th place winning a Gold Medal for first U20 man. Lucy Hillary did extremely well for 45th overall winning a Bronze Medal for  3rd U15 lady, she usually runs in the U13 age group. There was also a Bronze Medal for Freddy Sansom for 46th overall and 3rd U15 man. Freddy’s brother Alfie also did well for 64th overall and 4th U15 man. As with Lucy he usually runs in the U13 age group so great result.

Sunday 16th May 2021

Lucy ran extremely well finishing 5th in the under 13 girls race managing a PB of 2:40. Being new to track racing, she did not realise when she could move to the inside lane and if she did would have knocked at least a further 5 to 10 seconds off this time. Great experience and will certainly know in future races. Well done Lucy.
