Compton Challenge - Sunday 17th May 2026

Just two weeks after completing three back-to-back ultra marathons at the Jurassic Coast Challenge, Bourton Roadrunner Steph Holton and her training partner Catherine Wheeler took-on the Compton Challenge, a 16 mile trail run.

The intrepid pair tackled the tough undulating course, which follows part of the Ridgeway overlooking the Berkshire Downs, and were pleased with their time of 2 hours, 30 minutes and 3 seconds. Steph was also rewarded with third place in the FV60 category.

Barry Island 10K - Sunday 17th May 2026

Bourton Roadrunners also ventured to the Barry Island 10K, joining over 3600 fellow runners. They were Claire Cox – 46:22, Jaq Underwood 48:37 (VW60/3), Iain Cox 55:57, Barry O’Leary 54:18, Claire Carroll 55:45, Liz Hulcup – 64:29 (VW70/3), Louise Colwyn – 62:44 and Jeanette Brew 84:20.

Maverick Cotswolds Trail - Saturday 16th May 2026

Meanwhile, on Saturday Kevin Goodwill and Rebecca Townsend took part in the Maverick Cotswolds Trail, opting for the 14Km ‘Middle’ run. No strangers to the event, they both excelled, with Kevin finishing third overall from a field of 250 in 71 minutes and 27 seconds, while Rebecca achieved third place woman in 79 minutes and 1 second.

Parkrun - Saturday 16th May 2026

Of course no weekend would been complete without a Parkrun, and this week was extra special for a few participants from the club’s ‘Walk to Run’ group. They were celebrating their graduation from the current program by taking part at the Fire Service College parkrun at Moreton-in-Marsh. They were Ed Simpson, Gordon Foley, Tracey Bridge, and Marsha-May Townsend. Bourton Roadrunners could also be at the following venues:

Battersea: Eva Shoemark – 25:03.
Cheltenham Pittville Park: John Harding – 28:44.
Chipping Norton School: Jenny Evanson – 37:01 (VW60/1).
Cliffe Castle: Margaret Hollamby – 31:06 (VW70/1).

Fire Service College, Moreton-in-Marsh: Stephanie Lane – 18:36 (2nd overall and 1st woman), Lorna Shawcross – 26:28 (VW60/1), John Gibson – 26:30 (MV70/1), David Rees – 28:14 (VM60/2), Lee Smith – 28:45 (VW50/3), Sharon Rees – 32:12 (VW55/1), Alison Tighe – 36:36, Simon Jones - 38:19, Tracy Bridge – 38:51, John Conway – 40:17.
Newport, South Wales: Jaq Underwood – 25:07 (VW60/1), Lisa Braid – 25:07 (VW40/1), Liz Hulcup – 31:24 (VW70/2), Claire Louise Carroll – 41:40, Louise Conway – 57:01, Jeanette Brew – 57:08.
Stratford-upon-Avon: Susan Hunt – 27:11 (VW60/3).
University Parks: Edward Hare – 16:23 (1st overall, with an age-related ranking putting the 15 year old in the top15% of Park-runners worldwide!).

Highlights

This week Bourton Roadrunners were in action at the Compton Challenge, Barry Island 10K, Maverick Cotswolds Trail, and Parkrun.

Congratulations go to Edward Hare, who finished 1st overall at University Parks parkrun, and to Steph Lane who finished 1st woman and 2nd overall at Fire Service College parkrun.
