Cirencester Summer Sizzler 10K - Wednesday 10th June 2026
Last Wednesday evening Bourton Roadrunners were out in force again, with more than 20 members descending on the Cirencester Park estate for the annual Cirencester Summer Sizzler 10K race, a firm favourite with club members.
Bourton were led home by Steph Lane in a sizzling time of 36 minutes and 18 seconds and first woman overall, giving her back-to-back wins at the event and almost two minutes faster than last year and her fasted 10Km time since she was 18.
Darren Long also had a strong race and led the Bourton men home, with the MV50 pleased with his time of 39 minutes and 51 seconds, just three days after racing at Fairford 10K.
Niamh Shoemark was amongst the prize winners with her 43:01 (LV55/1 and sixth woman overall), who along with Jaq Underwood (LV60/1 in 46:25), and Steph Lane bagged the first women’s team.
It was pleasing to see so many club members out midweek, with several earning personal best times, notably Melissa Samuel who knocked-off a massive nine minutes.
Other Bourton runners were Kevin Goodwill (40:26 – representing Cheltenham), Tim Hemming (42:41), Ian Shoemark (43:52), Rebecca Townsend (44:41 - representing Cheltenham), Arianna Downs (47:16), Lee Hutton (51:22 – MV70/3), Robin Smith (51:39), Claire Blackie (52:02), Barry O’Leary (53:08), Claire Carroll (54:10), Clementine Bright (56:05), John Harding (56:08 – MV65/3), Lee Smith (57:20), Giles Canning (61:33), Val McKay (66:34), Melissa Samuel (68:33) and Jenny Evanson (76:14).
Southend-on-Sea Half Marathon - Sunday 14th June 2026
Meanwhile, this weekend John Gibson headed off to Shoeburyness in Essex, with memories of his childhood, for the Southend-on-Sea Half Marathon, which was celebrating its 30th anniversary, with the event supporting the Havens Hospices.
Whilst it was a largely flat course along the seafront, John was pleased for the large supporting crowd and gentle sea breeze to off-set the very hot conditions. He was pleased to complete the 13.1 mile course in a time of two hours, five minutes and 59 seconds, roughly in the middle of the field of 2700 finishers.
