Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire -

Angels 10k - 23rd September 2018

On a wet and cool morning, the re-scheduled Angels 10k took place at Ashleworth, Gloucester, but within a short time the rain had stopped. The course was undulating and very well Marshalled.

Mike Smith was the first Bourton Roadrunner home in 4th overall position and winning MV50, plus a prize in 37:43, having battled with Gloucester’s Jeremy Mower.

Close on his heels was Darren Long, 1st MV45, plus a prize in 38:28. Another excellent run saw Niamh Shoemark win the LV50 category and also a prize in 41:47. Chasing was Martin Cook, finishing in 42:15. Chris Lomax and Ben had their own battle with Chris coming out on top in 46:34 and 46:55 respectively. With only his 3rd race of the year Brian Hulcup finished in 51:06 and to bring home the roadrunners, Liz Hulcup, 2nd LV65 in 52:19.

St. Andrews Fun Run and 5k Trail Run - 9th September

16th September saw the annual St Andrews Fun Run and 5k Trail Run. Bourton Roadrunners were well represented, raising funds for the local primary school, St Andrew, Chedworth. The fun run was guided round by Britain’s Commonwealth Games runner Matt Shone; a sub-four minute mile runner, who sportingly encouraged the second place runner, Bourton Junior Kian Dee who also won the under-13 boy’s prize.

In the 5k trail run, Matt was joined by CLC Strider’s Will Ferguson to add additional fire-power. While the two runners set about providing a master class, Bourton Junior Jake Astor was also impressing in his first competitive 5k race, finishing 3rd overall and 1st senior man under 17; keep an eye out for this name in years to come.

The full list of Bourton’s runners taking part are: Jake Astor, 3rd and 1st MU17 (19:43); Kiya Dee, 4th and 1st FU15 (20:44); Michael Astor, 1st MU13 (21:18); Martin Cook, 2nd MV40 (21:26); Emily Field, 3rd SL and 1st FU17 (22:06); George Qulli, 2nd MU13 (22:12); Taya Dee, 2nd FU15 (22:33); Diane Dee, 1st FV50 (23:31); Jonathon Cook, 3rd MU13 (23:49); Malte Capper, 1st FU13 (24:04); Isabel Barnett, 3rd FU15 (24:52); Heidi Mundinano, FU15 (24:55); Abigail Barnett, 2nd FU13 (25:15); Brian Hulcup, 1st MV65 (25:51); Liz Hulcup, 1st FV65 (26:24) and Arlen Hartley, MU13 (28:36).

Great North Run - 9th September 2018

Sunday 16th September was the 38th running of the Great North Run, a half marathon from Newcastle to South Shields. Linda Edwards, who hails from Jordie-land herself and a frequent runner of the event, was joined by club mate John Gibson. They ran in the crowded and hot conditions, over a deceptively hilly course that finishes along the windy seafront at South Shields.

Cheered-on by the many thousands of locals plus family members in support, the two were satisfied with the 2 hours and 11 minutes running, accompanied by plenty of chat about nothing in particular and the annoying sounds of loose change (for post-race chips) in John’s back pocket.
