Wolverhampton Marathon - 1 September

Steve Edwards was pleased to run his fastest marathon for nearly a year in 3:10:37, with negative splits of 1:37 and 1:33. This gave him 22nd place overall, 2nd MV50 and a career 260th sub 3:15. So 598 marathons down and just 2 more required to the next big landmark.

Highland Perthshire Marathon - 7 September

Aberfeldy is a beautiful little town in the heart of the Highlands and this was the place that Steve Edwards was hoping to run marathon number 599. The race started early at 9am and although it was wet and overcast at first, it didn't take long for the sun to shine so you could admire the true beauty of this 2 lap marathon course.

After completing the first lap in 1:37 and lying in 8th place Steve pushed on hoping to catch one or two others but he never saw a soul until the 20 mile point. Then at last a target appeared going up the only hill on the course, Steve passed by and spotted more targets ahead so pushed on more.

In the end Steve was pleased to finish in 4th place with a time of 3:11:49 and thought he’d also claimed 1st V50 but alas he was only 2nd; a sign of the times that the two MV50s finish in the first 4 of an open marathon! So 599 official marathon races completed and now just one of the toughest road marathons in the UK stand in the way of a 600th, next stop Great Langdale on the 21st.
