Cheltenham Half Marathon - 15 September
A grey and windy morning greeted the entrants of Cheltenham’s half marathon this year - the 2013 edition of the race was a brand new course, totally unconnected with the previous 2011 race.
Bourton Roadrunners had a successful day with Mike Smith finishing 1st MV45 and 10th overall with 1:14:50
Dennis Walmsley finishing 1st MV50 with 1:19:35. Darren Long following shortly behind finishing 2nd MV40 with 1:21:05 and Shona Crombie-Hicks the next BRR to cross the finish line 2nd FV40 and 2nd female overall in 1:26:05.
Catherine Wheeler finished with 1:45:55, Edward Rozier with 1:54:57 and Emma Pinkham with 02:00:30. A good run all round with a difficult windy open climb out of the race course following on from a pretty well supported and organised race.
Great Langdale Marathon - 21 September
600 Not Out! On Saturday 21st September 2013, Steve Edwards crossed the finish line of the Great Langdale marathon to achieve a new record for running 600 official marathon races in the fastest average finish time - 3:18:25.
Steve clocked 3:22:26 on what is arguably the UK’s toughest road marathon to win the 1st MV50 prize which he proudly received from the great marathon man himself, Ron Hill MBE; it was the perfect finale to a great day.
To help celebrate, Teresa decided to run the UK’s toughest half marathon at the same time and was very pleased to clock 2:12 having done loads of reps on the Batsford hill in the weeks leading up to the event.
Highlights
Mike Smith finished 10th at the Cheltenham Half Marathon (1st MV45).
Dennis Walmsley was 1st MV50 in 1:19:35, with Darren Long 2nd MV40 in 1:21:05 and Shona Crombie-Hicks 2nd Lady in 1:26:05.
Steve Edwards reaches his 600th marathon at Great Langdale, at which he was 1st MV50 in 3:22:25. His award was made by Ron Hill, MBE.
