Welcome to Bourton Roadrunners Website

Bugatti 10k - 13 October

The Bugatti 10k was the 10th race (of 12) in the Gloucestershire county road race series, and many of the Bourton Roadrunners who headed to the Prescott Hill Climb for the race had their eyes on a prize. It helped to have an incentive to run, since the course was challenging (with a ruthless climb over the final kilometre) and the weather was downright miserable.

Persistent cold rain meant a shivery pre-race huddle on the start line followed by mid-race dilemmas about whether to splash through the enormous puddles or lose precious seconds by dodging them. Meanwhile, the supporting spectators got very wet indeed.

First for Bourton and second in the race was clammy Cal Winwood (35:08), followed by moist Mike Smith (3rd, 1st MV40 in 35:47). Sopping Shona Crombie-Hicks had clearly recovered from the Jersey Marathon the previous weekend, finishing 1st lady and 9th overall (39:52).

Saturated Steph Lane continued her steady progression this season with 3rd lady (42:45). A jolly-wet John Gibson was running his last race as a MV50 (he was, unbelievably, celebrating his 60th Birthday the following day), and ran a superb 43:44.

Soaking Steph Holton sped in next (46:31) just ahead of aqueous Ali Lane (1st FV55 in 46:34). A sodden Graham Lane was in next (47:50), followed by the inappropriately-named Chris Dry (48:03). Bourton runners continued to stream in with soggy Susan Hunt (48:38), bedraggled Brian Hulcup (49:26), liquid Liz Hulcup (49:50), drenched David Pyne (51:04), slippery Gill Carrick (52:07), Storming Norm Lane (54:19) and water-logged Lynn Hudson (54:41).

Runners gathered for the prize-giving clutching their complimentary hot drinks. The Bourton men’s team of Cal, Mike and John scooped first prize (amazingly, this was the first ever team prize for John), and the ladies’ team of Shona and the two Stephs took 2nd prize.

Then everyone went home for a hot bath and to ponder over the contents of their goody bags (spray-on magnesium and ubiquinol tablets - rather different from the beer and burger we used to get at the Bugatti).
