Gloucester 20 Miles – 18th March 2012

After a late start to the Gloucestershire road-running series a keen bunch of athletes lined up for the first race, a daunting start as it was the Gloucester 20 miler. Most of the Bourton group at the race are well into their marathon training which showed with some great results.

After a great start to her season Shona Crombie - Hicks continued her winning ways after a blistering start to come in as 1st lady in 2 hours 8 minutes 47 seconds, 7 minutes ahead of the 2nd lady.

Tony Goodwill's training for his upcoming marathon is paying dividends with a strong effort of 2:24:07. Nigel Frith is coming on particularly well with his 2nd 20 mile PB in a matter of weeks. He did cut it fine, beating his Bramley 20 mile PB by 3 seconds in 2:28:30.

Claire Harrison perhaps had the run of the day with very impressive time of 2:34:43, which should see her in good form for the London Marathon. She was closely followed by John Gibson, who had run with Caire all the way, but faded over the last half mile.

Ever steady Rob Humphris had yet another strong performance in 2:37:45. Andy MacCoombes is stronger each week, with a strong run in 2:48:15. Steph Holton and Gill Carrick are both in fantastic running form as their recent results have showed. A massive struggle between the two ensued, with both ladies looking very strong. It was Steph, who by only 20 seconds, won their battle with both very pleased to beat the 2 hour-50-mark in 2:49:32 and 2:49:52 respectively. Our final runner home to great cheers from his team mates with a fine effort was David Payne in 3:03:01.
