Welcome to Bourton Roadrunners Website

Cirencester 10k – 25th September 2011

With county championship points at stake and final preparations for next week’s Jersey Marathon a large number of Bourton athletes took part in the Cirencester 10k.

As he has done all season, Mike Smith led home for the Bourton runners with a good workout for the Jersey Marathon, finishing 3rd and 1st vet 40 in 34:25 also securing the county vet 40 title. Ewen Smith was pleased to claim 1st vet 45 in 37:37 in his first race in this age group.

Shona Crombie-Hicks continued her string of good results with 2nd lady and vet 40 in 38:18. Not far behind was Lucy Walmsley with a very strong run as 3rd lady and 1st vet35 in 39:02. Sarah Harper with one of her season’s best efforts finished 4th lady to secure Bourton the team prize in 40:38.

Other finishers on the day were Mike Hobbs 41:04; Andy Peaston 42:02; Mike Pudifoot 43:06; Steph Lane as 1st Senior lady in 43:49; Ali Lane after 10 days off, with great time and 1st vet 50 45:41; John Raper 46:13. Great to see Justin Launchbury back, with a time of 46:36; Liz Hulcup, yet again 1st vet 55, in 47:26; long-time-away from racing, Beth Pudifoot did well as 2nd junior in 47:53; Andy McCoombes 48:03; Gill Carrick 49:32; Steph Holton 50:11. A welcome Mark Phipp in 52:23; Susan Hunt 52:24; David Pyne a new member in 52:58; Robin MacDonald 54:43; Lynn Hudson 55:51. Our two injured hardy athletes Norm Lane finished in 58:25 and Gary Holton in 1:01:23.

New Forest Marathon – 25th September 2011

At the New Forest Marathon Caroline Middleton did remarkably well in her first ever marathon to finish just outside the 4 hour-mark, in 4 hours and 36 seconds, to claim 2nd lady vet 45; brilliantly done.

Steve Edwards narrowly missed the sub 3 hour 15 target, with a solid time of 3 hours 15 minutes 10 seconds. Steve says that he mistimed the sprint finish, but is well on his way to 500 sub 3:30 marathons, with his standing at 462.

Great North Run – 18th September 2011

The previous week, John Gibson made the long journey north to compete, as he has every year for many years, to the Great North Run. In a magical atmosphere and with the course record being broken, unfortunately not by John, he enjoyed a great day and very respectable time of 1:41:08.
