Draycote Water Marathon & 35 Miles - 22nd February

The Draycote Water Marathon, a 5 lap undulating course around Draycote Water organised by Kenilworth Running Club.

Despite battling against quite strong head winds on one part of the course, Steve Edwards managed to cross the line in a time of 3:06:16 which was over 6 minutes quicker than his time there last year and good enough to get him 3rd placed male out of a field of just over 100 runners.

Steve ran a pretty evenly paced race with a halfway split of just under 1:33 and 2:23 for 20 miles.

He had an idea I was lying in 4th place at 24 miles, so he picked up the pace in the final 2.2 miles to move into 3rd place and kept going to finish over a minute ahead in the end. Steve was very pleased to get an unexpected 3rd place and a cash prize too which was a nice surprise! - see side picture.

Tony Goodwill ran in the 35 mile Ultra on the same day. He finished a splendid 21st, in a time of 4:43:57 and was also 2nd V50.
