Club Participation in Races - Report of 17th October

EAST, WEST, HOME IS BEST!!!

With Bourton runners heading in all directions for races, the Club has a good reason to celebrate the many successes.

In the Great Eastern Run in Peterborough, Ian MacDougall started fashionably late, but was slotted into his correct position with his chip time of 1:16:38 to finish 32nd.

Ian Shoemark took a break from cooking to attack the Great North Run finishing in 1:31:31, while the intrepid duo of John Gibson (dressed as Hamlet) and Ed Rozier ran together for 1:56:14 and 1:56:15, John obviously elbowing Ed out at the finish!!

On home turf (literally) in the west, the first of the Gloucestershire League Cross Countries kicked off at the delightful Cotswold Farm Park venue.  Organized by Dennis Walmsley and with the kind permission of Adam Henson the owner, this inaugural course was a huge hit with runners and spectators alike, despite the huge hill!  The rare bonus of fabulous weather ensured the atmosphere was buoyant and attracted good supporting crowds for the masses of runners.

The first race of the day was the Under 11 Girls, where Ava Shoemark and Charlotte Hartley made their mark, finishing 12th and 13th in 7:09 and 7:11.  Next up were the U/11 boys, with Tom Pudifoot 8th in 6:39, Jake Launchbury 9th in 6:44 and Alex Darwent 25th in 8:08 securing 4th team place.  Eleanor Hall was the sole Bourton representative in the under 13 girls finishing 24th in 15:31.  The Under 13 boys of Keiren Shoemark 12th in 12:23, Finn Shoemark 27th in 14:17 and Ben Darwent 28th in 14:18 finished 7th team.

Beth Pudifoot, with a fine run, made it to 4th in the Under 15 girls in 21:39, while in the Under 15 boys Lewis Gray and newcomer James Outhwaite finished 18th 20:15 and 26th 22:46 respectively.  The Under 17s running in the same races were Brittany Teague 4th in 22:21 and Lee Knowles 9th in 22:40.

Steph Lane, in her first year as an Under 20, ran with the Senior Ladies and annihilated the field, winning by a gap of 48 seconds from the 2nd place runner in 25:57.   Pauline Teague was next in 50th place in 33:21, followed by Lynn Hudson 65th 35:38 and a rare appearance by Lynn Spedding 84th in 42:37.

The Senior Men were out in force with Dennis Walmsley 7th and first M/45 in 44:42, despite all his efforts in setting up the course and planning the day.  Andy Chapple had a good run for 28th spot in 48:50, followed by Chris Harley 32nd in 49:27, Dawson Lees 46th in 51:06, Tony Goodwill 49th in 51:44, Neil Teague 83rd in 54:39, Justin Launchbury 116th in 59:05, Richard Bufton 118th 59:10, Steve Wheeler (in what resembled an antique Bourton shirt) 123rd 1:00:54 and Bert Jess 154th in 1:10:09.

The Senior team finished 3rd, the Vets A Team 2nd and the B Team 14th - an excellent result for Bourton.

The next day on an equally picturesque and sunny course, 6 Bourton Roadrunners took part in the Rotary Blenheim 10K.  Mike Smith was first home for Bourton in 5th place with a time of 36:12.  Ewen Smith and Rob Edwards both had superb runs to finish under the 40 min barrier, with times of 39:38 and 39:56 in 11th and 13th places.

Lucy Walmsley improved her 10K time from just a couple of weeks ago, finishing 1st Lady in a time of 40:07.

Neil and Pauline Teague, both having raced the day before, had good runs of 41:41 and 50:26 and 1st LV50.
