Isle of Man Marathon - Race Report

Murray Lambden earned the somewhat dubious distinction of being the oldest winner of the Isle of Man Marathon when he led the SalClear-sponsored 2008 event from start to finish at Ramsey on Sunday 10th August. A couple of months short of his 52nd birthday, the Douglas all-rounder claimed his first marathon win at the 14th attempt with his fifth fastest time.

Marathon Man, Steve Edwards, of Bourton Roadrunners and the 100 Marathon Club, has just completed his 454th marathon in his bid to achieve 500 marathons by 2012 and his 50th birthday.

After his recent '10 marathons in 10 days' challenge, he has shown that with a little rest(?) he is able to improve his time, recording a superb 3:11:17 in the Isle of Man Marathon and receiving the 1st Vet 45 prize and 7th place overall from a field of 98 finishers. With such vast experience he managed to maintain even splits, recording 1:35:40 at half way and passing 2 other Vet 45s in the last mile to claim the title.
