Gloucestershire Cross Country League - Round 3
Pitville Park, Cheltenham.- Saturday 13th December 2014.

Bourton Roadrunner Juniors again turned out in numbers to compete in the third round of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League Competition at Pittville Park in Cheltenham.

In the U11 girls Helena West and Isobel Barnett pushed each other hard for 7th and 8th with both girls battling for 1st and 2nd place in the club competition. Celia Darwent ran her best race to date with an excellent 24th place.  These results placed the A team in 4th place on the day and still in 2nd place overall. These girls were well supported by Annabella Tallis (27th), Isabelle Morriss (33rd), Abigail Barnett (38th), Isabel Dennett (40th), Ella Lane-Gregory (51st) and Erika Creed (52nd).  These girls helped the B team to 9th and the C team to 13th on the day.

Lucy Griffin 2nd, Bethan Powell 3rd and Josephine Mutsaars 7th  kept the U13 Girls team in overall 1st position  although they came 2nd to Stroud on the day. Lucy was again pushed hard by Bethan and Josephine ran her best race of the season. Emily Field (22nd), Isabel Kiey-Thomas (25th) and Kate Edgerton (28th) all ran well on the day bringing the B team home in 7th place.

The U15 girls A team managed a very creditable 3rd place overall. Top runner Niamh Powell had an off day due to illness but still ran strongly for 9th place with very gutsy display. Rosie Mutsaars is again starting to show her true potential with an excellent 10th place and Koumi Ikeda ran strongly for 15th place. These girls were again well supported by Charlotte Foster (18th) and Gabby Jones (22nd) who was also suffering from a cold. The A team have a great chance of third overall with a good display at Tewkesbury in the final round.

The U11 boys A team managed to hold onto 3rd place overall with a 3rd place on the day. Kan Ikeda 5th, Louis Mutsaars 6th and Findlay Morriss, again led the boys home with all three running extremely well as they have all season.  These boys were greatly supported by Finn Watkins (21st), Lysander Tarrant (23rd), Beau Griffin (24th),  Dicken Tilley-Loughrey (27th), Christopher Hunt (29th), Toby Sellek (31st), James Mace (34th), Connor McGuinness Dean (42nd), Jago Tarrant (48th), George Farley (54th), Edward Jones (55th) and Sean Farley 56th).  These boys helped the B team to 6th, the C team to 9th, the D team to 13th and the E team to 16th. With many of these boys being under 9 or new to the club, we have a bright future in this age group and the u13’s when they move up.

The U13 boys A team did well for 6th place on the day and still have an outside chance of 3rd place overall with a good display at Tewkesbury. Dylan Williams led the team home in 16th place with Josh Angus close behind in 20th place. Aden Corban and Thomas Wood ran well for 34th and 36th. All these boys have just moved up from the U11’s so well done.

With their help Chipping Campden School came a very respectable 6th place in the Competition.

Gloucestershire Cross Country League - Round 2
Malvern - Saturday 1st November 2014.

On Saturday 1st November the 2nd round of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League took place at Malvern. This is one of the most demanding courses in the league over the very undulating terrain of Malvern Common. Again the juniors again turned up in numbers with thirty seven members taking part.
The U11’s course was longer than usual at approximately 2km long and with the undulations and long up-hill finish was extremely tough, especially for this age group with several seven and eight year olds taking part.

The U11 girls again did extremely well with the A team coming 2nd with Helena West 7th, Isobel Barnett 8th and Lauren Farley 9th , they all pushed each other hard with Helena finally coming out on top on this occasion. There was a very gutsy run by Cadence Muschamps who has had a long period of illness and despite a major lack of training, still managed to come 14th and leading the B team home in 6th. She was well supported by Abigail Barnett 25th and Annabella Williams 26th, both girls being only seven years old, which is extremely impressive. The C team was only three places behind with very good performances from Celia Darwent 28th, Isabelle Morriss 30th and Ella Rose Lane-Gregory 36th. These girls were well supported by Isabel Dennett 41st and Erika Creed 44th.

The U11 boys were supported in numbers with the club managing to put together four teams in this round, very impressive.  The A team was led home by Louis Mutsaars 5th in one of his best performances so far, closely followed by Findlay Morriss 8th with another very impressive run. Beau Griffin 18th was 3rd runner home at only eight years old, the team managing 4th  place, only one position down on 3rd place. In his first major race for the club Finn Watkins did extremely well for 20th, closely followed by two eight year olds, Lysander Tarrant 27th and George Quli 31st. The B teams managed a creditable 8th place. The C team managed 11th place with James Mace 37th, Christopher Hunt 40th   and Jacob Herbert 48th and the D team were 14th supported by Jago Tarrant 51st, Charlie Astor 55th and George Farley 56th. They were well supported by Sean Farley 59th who has just joined the club a 7 years old.

The very talented Lucy Griffin won the U13’s girls race with another very controlled run and was pushed all the way by the outstanding Bethan Powell who has only moved up to this age group this season. They were both nearly 30 seconds ahead of the third placed runner. Josephine Mutsaars ran her best race so far with an excellent 5th place bring the A team home in 1st place, 9 places in front of 2nd placed Cheltenham. They were well supported by new member Emily Field 21st who is getting better with each race, with another fine display.

The U13 boys continue to hold on to third place in the league with another third place at Malvern. Dylan Williams 10th is again starting to show his true potential with a very fine display with Josh Angus 16th, who just keeps getting better with every race. New member Jake Astor 21st, ran impressively in only his 2nd race for the club. These three boys were well supported by Aden Corben 33rd and Thomas Wood 42nd. All these boys have only just moved up to this age group, so very well done.

After a fantastic performance at the Farm Park, Niamh Powell continued her domination in the U15 girls race winning again, with the 2nd placed girl over 45 seconds behind, after only moving up to this age group this season.  She was well supported by Rosie Mutsaars 8th, who has not raced this distance for some time and will certainly move up in the coming races as her stamina improves. Gabby Jones 12th led the A team home in 1st place and was well supported by Charlotte Foster 13th . Both Gabby and Charlotte moved up an age group this season and both runners are improving with each race and adjusting to the longer distance.

Several members ran today for Chipping Campden School  in the first round of the ESAA English Schools Cross Country Cup at Bromsgrove with all running extremely well for their school. Emily Field came 20th in the Junior girls, Josh Angus came 6th in the Junior boys. Koumi Ikeda 6th, Charlotte Foster 15th and Gabby Jones, still recovering from illness, 19th, helped to bring the Inter Girls in 2nd overall, against some very good competition. They all paced the race extremely well over a relatively flat course with the Junior girls running 2.3km approx. and the Junior boys and Inter girls running 2.7km approx. The Inter girls should make it through to the second round at Warrington but this has to be confirmed.

Gloucestershire Cross Country League - Round 1
Cotswold Farm Park - Saturday 4th October 2014.

The first race took place in the Gloucestershire Cross Country league   at the Cotswold Farm Park on Saturday 4th October 2014. Bourton juniors had a tremendous turn out they all ran very well, the course is very demanding with lots of ups and downs, twists and turns, very hard to get any rhythm or flow. All the races in all age categories were much higher in standard and numbers this year, a record turnout yet again.

The Under 11 girls took the race by storm with some outstanding runs and great team work. Isobel Barnett was first in for the club after having a great battle with fellow team mate Lauren Farley Isobel just won with a good dip on the line in 4th with Lauren 5th. Hot on their heels was the ever determined Helena West in 7th, I would not like to get in her way! Next in was Cadence Muschamp who perhaps started a touch fast but recovered well to finish 12th a good learning curve for her and with more experience will make great improvements. The Bourton girls then all streamed in well all very close to each other, Ella Davies in 16th, Annabella Tallis in 30th, Abbi James in 39th, Isobel Nevins in 40th, Abigail Barnett in 44th, Alice Brown in 45th, Isabella Morriss in 47th, Maria Watkins in 49th, Isobel Dennett in 53rd, Celia Darwent in 54th, Ella Rose Lane- Gregory in 58th, Tara Andrews in 61st, Erika Creed in 62nd and Maya Andrews in 65th. There was only a few minutes dividing all our girls in this very fast and competitive field.
In the team league the girls are 1st, 5th, 10th, 13th 15th and 16th.

In the Under 13 girls race Lucy Griffin made a fantastic start to the season with a very strong run to finish 2nd and I am sure as the season goes on and she gets stronger she will soon take the top spot. Bethan Powell moved up this year and she entered this category with bang to take 6th spot, a tremendous start in this tough age group. Josephine Mutsaars also had a good start to the season as she seems to flow over the difficult ground to finish 9th. They were well backed up by two more newcomers in the category, Isabel Kiey- Thomas in 22nd and Emily Field in 27th a very strong team. In the league they are 2nd team.
In the Under 15 girls race they all run together with the Under 17 girls.

All our girls this year were new to this age group so a tough day was ahead on a long and difficult course. Niamh Powell put on a master class of how to run a race. After the first small loop she was half way down the field so she could gage this new group of runners, she then started to pick them off one my one and by the time she got in the field to do the last 800 meters she as up to third and gaining fast. With 400 meters to go she hit the front and won by nearly 20 seconds a perfect race, she not only beat all the under 15 but all the under 17 as well. She is a good role model for all our younger runners, if you train hard with patience and determination you will get the rewards. She was also well backed up by all our under 15 girls with very strong runs from Koumi Ikeda in 20th, Charlotte Foster in 23rd and Gabby Jones in 24th as their stamina grows they will work their way up the field.
In the team league they are 6th.

Once again the Under 11 boy’s field was very competitive. Kan Ikeda lead the way for the team in a very good 5th, he worked his way through the field well, plenty more to come here. Louis Mutsaars is so consistent now, always battling at the front of the field, a very good 11th today. Close behind was the ever improving Findlay Morriss in 16th and the other boys packed in well to give a very strong team performance, as with the girls only a few minutes between them all. Lysander Tarrant finished 24th, Beau Griffin finished 28th, Dicken Tilley-Loughrey finished 35th, Finley Davies finished 40th, George Quli finished 42nd, Connor McGuiness- Dean finished 49th, Clay Andrews finished   50th, Jago Tarrant finished 56th, Alfie Griffin finished 58th, Christopher Hunt finished 61st, George Farley finished 66th, Jacob Herbert finished 658th Sean Farley finished 72nd and Edward Jones 74th. All fine runs on this tough course.
In the team league the boys are 3rd, 9th, 14th, 16th, and 19th.

The Under 13 boys were all new to this category so a real challenge for them and the all rose well to it. With Dylan Williams leading the way in  a good battle with team mate Josh Angus with Dylan just winning on the line by a few seconds in 17th and 18th respectively, very good experience for the boys. Aden Corban had a fine run in 34th and Thomas Wood battled round well in 41st, plenty more to come as these boys get stronger.
In the team league the boys are 5th.

Plock Court Cross Country - Gloucester.
Saturday 30th September 2014.

The cross country season is upon us again and Bourton Juniors used The Plock Court race in Gloucester as a good warm up for the new season on Saturday 27th September. The event was approx. 1 mile long, perfect conditions today. Bourton Juniors dominated the event.

All our juniors have trained very well over the summer and there were some fine performances today.
The girls race was won by Koumi Ikeda a new member we gained in the summer who has become a fine runner she finished in 4mins 46secs. In 2nd it is good to see Lauren Farley back in good form ready for the season in 5mins 5secs. She was pushed well by Annie Tallis in 4th in 5mins 24sesc, Annabella Williams in 7th in 5mins 45secs, Maria Watkins in 8th in 5mins 45 secs, Isabel Dennett in 9th in 5mins 47secs, Isabelle Morriss in 10th in 5mins 48secs, Celia Darwent in 12th in 5mins 52secs and Eliana Hale in 13th in 6mins 42secs and as you can see they all had a good race between them with some fine sprint finishes.

In the boys race Dylan Williams and Kan Ikeda had a good race for the top spot. Dylan has run and won many races so he used his experience to tuck in behind Kan all the way so he could take the wind and in the last 50 meters pulled away to win in 4mins 30 secs. A new member like his sister, Kan will learn from the seasoned campaigner, but a fine runner he is becoming to take 2nd in 4 mins 33secs. Jake Astor was just behind in 3rd with another fine run in 4mins 44secs. Also just behind the boys were having a good race between them with Finlay Morriss in 5th in 4mins 58secs,  George Quli in 6th in 5mins 8secs,  Dicken Tilley Loughrey in 7th in 5mins 9secs, George Farley in 10th in 5mins 40secs, Thomas Wood in 11th in 5mins 43secs, Jacob Herbert in 12th in 5 mins 48secs, Charlie Astor in 13th in 5mins 49secs and Sean Farley in 15th in 6mins 42secs. Some fine runs which will set them up for the first Cross Country League.

Chedworth Fun Run.
Sunday 14th September 2014.

A new Fun Run took pace at Chedworth on Sunday 14th September. Unfortunately it was very last minute and all leaders were busy and could not attend but several BRR Juniors took part. The Fun Run went very smoothly for a first event and was well attended with 57 runners in total. Several Bourton Road Runner junior members attended: Kan Ikeda, Koumi Ikeda, George Quli, Arthur Quli, Aden Corban, Ella Rose Lane-Gregory and Abbi James. The course was 2.4km and was quite a tough course, through farm tracks, across a stretch of the Chedworth air field and with a gradual hill at the end. The course followed part of the Chedworth Roman Run. Kan Ikeda was the overall winner, first boy and first boy under 11yrs in a time of 10.06. Koumi Ikeda was second overall, first girl and first girl under 14 yrs with a time of 10.21. George Quli came third overall, second boy and first boy under 9 years, he did a time of 10.40. Bourton One Mile Challenge.
Saturday 19th July 2014.

Bourton Juniors we out in force despite a number missing due to the start of the summer holidays.

Held in perfect conditions the main race got underway at 6pm, followed by the fun run a few minutes after. This has now become a very popular race with approx. 175 athletes taking part. The juniors love running in this race as they all run with the adults who very rarely happens and they beat most of them as well.

There were some outstanding performances.

Niamh Powell took a chunk off her time from last year to finish in 5mins 33seconds and took the county under 13 title once again she also finished 3rd lady in the whole race just behind some international runners. She was closely followed by her sister Bethan in 6mins 10 secs in a very determined performance in yet another PB. In her first race for the club Koumi Ikeda should what tremendous potential she has by finished in 6mins 11secs.Next in was Rosie Davidson in 6mins 26secs a great result, plenty more to come here. Helena West gave her all as ever in 6mins 35secs, closely followed by Isobel Barnett in 6mins 38 secs. Some great runs by Annabella Williams  in 7mins 15secs, Darcy Thompson in 7mins 31 secs, Anna Tallis in 7mins 38secs, Ella Lane-Gregory in 7mins 42secs, Isobel Hartley in 7mins 51 secs, Lilly Anna Walmsley in 7mins 51 secs and Alice Brown in 8mins 15secs.

In the boys race it was good to see Tom Pinkham racing for the club on his return from school. He ran very strongly to finish in 5mins 29 secs and well up the main field. He was pushed very hard by the very gifted Dylan Williams in 5mins 31 at only 10 years of age! What a run by Jake Astor pushing Dylan all the way in 5mins 59secs. Max Pinkham is returning to form in 6mins 18secs closely followed by Louis Mutsaars in 6mins 26secs who has trained hard all summer and it is showing. Findlay Morris had a fine run in 6mins 32secs as did Charlie Davidson in 6mins 43secs, Chris Hunt in 6mins 51secs and Finlay Davies in the same time, good solid runs. Tough man of day was Toby Sellek who fell at the start and had a number of nasty grazes and cuts, he picked himself up and ran dripping in blood all the way and finished well up in 6mins 59secs. Just behind was the ever improving Jacob Herbert in 7mins 2secs then some fine runs by Will Tallis in 7mins 8secs, Arthur Hanson in 8mins 41secs, and Albert Walmsley in 10mins 7secs another one to watch here in the future.

This was also a Gloucestershire county race. Tom Pinkham won the silver medal in the under 15 boy’s race. In the under 11 boys race Dylan Williams won the gold medal and Jake Astor the bronze medal. Rosie Davidson won the gold medal in the under 15 girl’s race. Niamh Powell won the gold medal in the under 13 girl’s race and Isobel Hartley the bronze medal. In the under 11 girls race we had the clean sweep with Bethan Powell winning the gold, Helena West the silver and Isobel Barnett the bronze.

School Sports Day Update

Henry Bell did very well at the Temple Guiting Primary Scool Spoprts Day where he won the yr 5 Long jump, hurdles, sprint, skipping and javelin, coming second to Louis Mutsaars in the 400m, and bringing his house team in 2nd in the relay from 3rd when he took over the last leg. As a result he was joint winner of this year's Victor Ludorum Award.

At the Cotswold School Sports Day Kate Edgerton did very well to come 2nd in the Year 7, 800 metre race.

Cotswold Schools District Championships.

Well done to Bethan Powell who won the Cotswold District Schools 600 metres by over 60 metres.

Sherborne Fun Run.
Sunday 22nd June 2014.

The 2014 Sherborne Fun Run took place again this year on 22nd June, and once again Bourton Juniors turned out in force to support the event, held from and in aid of the local school.

The course is far from easy the first half of the race is up a steep climb into the woods with lots of twist and turns. The conditions were perfect. There was also a big field so some tough completion for Bourton.

In the under 11 boy’s race Dylan Williams again showed the class act he is, he won his age category well and was second overall in the race, the chap who won was at least 5 years older and 3 foot taller, he must have started in the wrong race! Louis Mutsaars hard training is paying off with a fine run today just behind Dylan in 2nd. Henry Bell also ran strongly today to finish well in 5th. Noah Quli battled round well in 9th

In the under 10 boys race Finlay Morris had a fine race at the front of the field just missing out on the top spot to finish 2nd. He was very closely followed by the very strong Toby Sellek in 3rd. Chris Hunt powered through the field well to finish 4th closely followed by the very determined and powerful Dicken Tilley Loughrey in 5th. George Farley is getting stronger every race to finish well in 8th today.

George Quli led from the start in the under 9 boy’s race and won very well to take his first race win. Jacob Herbert had some good battles today and finished very strongly in 4th, there is plenty more to come here. Arthur Fletcher also had a good sprint finish to take 7th spot.

In the under 8 boys race Sean Farley had a good battle on his hands and was just piped on the line to finish 2nd but a fine run.
In his first race for the club Peter Fletcher showed what potential he has by taking 4th spot today in the under 7 boy’s race.

One of the star runners today was Arthur Quli winning the under 6 boy’s race, one to watch for the future here.

In the under 15 girls race Kate Edgerton had a fine race finishing 3rd today, Kate has trained well over the summer so a good cross season should follow. She was very closely followed by the ever improving Eleanore Gilbert in 4th.These two also competed yesterday so good results. Isobel Hartley ran very strongly as ever despite suffering with Asthma to finish an excellent 5th.

Lauren Farley is returning to her old form after injury with a very impressive run and a fantastic sprint finish to finish 1st under 11 girls. Helena West runs with so much determination I would not like to get in her way she ran strongly as ever to finish 3rd today. Just behind was the very talented Ellie Edgerton who always races very well to finish 4th today. Libby Herbert is very quickly moving up the field as she gets stronger in every race to finish in an excellent 5th today. This looks like a very impressive team in the making for the rest of the season.

Another up and coming star is Darcy Thompson who had her first major race win today with a very commanding performance in the under 10 girl’s race. She was very closely followed by up and coming Freya Gilbert in 3rd.

Also with her first win the very impressive Isobel Dennett in the under 9 girl’s race, however she was made to work very hard by the equally impressive Ella Lane-Gregory in her first race for the club who was just piped on the line into 2nd place. Poppy Wannell made it a clean sweep for Bourton just behind in 3rd with a fine finish, a very strong trio.

Perhaps one of the most impressive runs of the day was by Rosabella Edgerton in the under 8 girls race, she not only won her race but beat many other girls much older than her, she finished 16th overall in the whole race in a field of nearly 150 !, a star in the making if she keeps training hard.

The same can also be said about Lilly-Anna Walmsley who made it look so easy today as she glided over the ground to finish first under 7 girl and again well up the overall field . Very closely behind in 3rd was the very impressive Annabella Williams who had so much natural talent.

Bourton Aquathon.

On Saturday 21 June the Bourton Aquathon took place in its 2nd year. For most this was the first time in such an event which involved a swim then a cross country run. Gloucestershire Track & Field Championships.
Blackbridge. Gloucester.
Sunday 18th June 2014.

Bourton Roadrunners Juniors took part in the Gloucestershire Track and Field Championships at Blackbridge on Sunday 18th June in warm, sunny conditions.
Many of the races were run in heats with the quickest three times in the heats winning the medals. The Ull’s running in the 600 metre race and other age groups in the 1500 metre race. Some members also took part in other races.

Cadence Muschamps (2.05) in her first Athletics race dominated the U11’s girls race leading the race from start to finish, Isobel Barnett (2.11) keeps getting better and finished strongly for 3rd. Unfortunately Cadence is not a resident of Gloucestershire so missed out on the Gold Medal but Isobel won Bronze. Annie Tallis (2.13) is starting to show her class for 5th closely followed by experienced Helena West (2.17) in 6th. Libby Herbert (2.22) who runs in nearly every race did very well for 8th, and Alice Brown, 9th(2.37), Maddie Tracey, 10th (2.38), Eliana Hale, 11th (2.40) and also Abbi James 6th(2.29) in the 2nd heat all did extremely well in their first competitive event for the club.

In the boys 600 metre race Louis Mutsaars (1.59) showed his class with an excellent 2nd winning a Silver Medal just a few seconds behind the winner.  In the first heat Henry Bell (2.12) and Finlay Morriss(2.15) did extremely well for 6th and 7th and Will Tallis (2.18) in his first race, looks one for the future in 7th. There was also a closely fought race between Jacob Herbert and Chris Hunt with Jacob (8th) just pipping Christopher into 9th.  Dicken Tilley-Loughrey (2.11) and Malachy Jones (2.25) went off extremely quickly leading the first half of the race but then had to hold on, with the warm conditions taking their toll.  Dicken still managed 3rd and Malachy after suffering a bad bought of stitch held on for 7th.

Bethan Powell (5.53) also dominated her race with her usual grit and determination leading the U13 girls from start to finish, winning Gold medal. Jess Hale (6.19) who works so hard in training is now being rewarded for her efforts with an excellent 3rd and a Bronze medal. Both girls have only just moved up to the U13 age group.

In a very competitive U15 girls race Niamh Powell (5.20) again ran strongly for 5th and Gabby Jones (5.56) and Isobel Hartley (6.55) ran well with both runners pushing each other on until Isobel struggled home suffering from Asthma. Gabby managed 9th and Isobel 10th. Again all three athletes have only just moved up from the U13 age group.

Max Pinkham (6.00) did extremely well in the U13 boys 1500 metre race despite over the last year missing a great deal of training through injury and illness for 6th. Charlie Davidson (6.22) again ran well for 7th and Joe Wright (6.46) smashed his personal best for 8th. As with the U13 Girls these three members have just moved up to this age group.

Peter Wood again ran well for 8th in the U17’s race after moving up an age group beating his time set at Prince of Wales last year. Robbie his brother had to pull out of the U13’s race due feeling unwell after suffering from Meningitis a few months ago.

Several members took part in other events with Henry Bell winning Gold in the 60 metre sprint and William Tallis and Malachy Jones coming 4th in each of their heats. Annie Tallis did well for 4th in the girls race and Gabby Jones managed 5th in both the 100 metre and 200 metre races. Edward Gum also did extremely well with 4th in the 800 metre boys race.

The last league race took place in very windy and muddy conditions after all the rain; the course had to be change because a large section was underwater. Once again all the juniors put in fantastic performances to end a very successful season for everybody.

There were also some good battles just behind as they pushed each other into some excellent positions. Libby Herbert (31st) just held off Megan Gibson (32nd) and Ellie Edgerton (37th) had a good battle with Isobel Kiey Thomas (38th). Annabella Tallis ran very well today to finish very strongly in 45th. In the teams today Bourton finished 4th, 6th and 9th.

He fellow team mates also battled round well with Lucy Griffin once again showing  determination under real pressure to finish 4th. Josephine Mutsaars is coming back to her best again with a fine 8th today. Charlotte Foster is improving with every race with an excellent 14th today as is Gabby Jones who ran through the field well to finish 17th. Kate Edgerton has also improved in every race this season, one to watch next season, she finished 23rd today. Isobel Hartley also had a fine run today as her stamina came through well in the tough conditions a very good 30th today despite losing her spikes in the mud. In the teams today the girls finished 1st and 5th.

The under 11 boys were once again out in force. Dylan Williams once again had a fine run despite his heavy sporting schedule to finish 6th today. He was very closely followed by the very up and coming Joshua Angus who has had a fantastic season to finish 8th today, a very close race today at the top of the field only a few seconds splitting the top 10.  Louis Mutsaars again had a fine race to come 16th today, one to watch next season as he will still be in the under 11 category. Max Pinkham has improved all season after his bad injury in the summer in a solid 18th today. Not far behind there was a great race between Finlay Morris (40th), Beau Griffin (41st) and Thomas Wood (42nd) with only 2 seconds separating them, they pushed each other to good positions. Dicken Tilley Loughrey once again ran very strongly in the tough conditions to finish 45th.  Charlie Davidson was not firing on all cylinders today but still battled round well in 47th. There was also a good tussle between Jacob Herbert (54th) George Quli (56th) and Joseph Wright (57th) with some very impressive sprint finishes. Next away were the under 13 boys with the fields now really churned up. In his first race for the club Edward Gum seemed to float over the mud in a very controlled and impressive run, there is great potential here; he finished well up the field today in 12th. Jake Darby has been training well all winter and it showed today with a very good run in 20th and he ran without spikes, he could have easily finished 5/10 places up the field with spikes as he ran twice as far with all the slipping and sliding.

In the overall league Jake Darby finished 21st and Robbie Wood 30th

The under 15 boys ran next and once again Peter Wood finished further up the field in this very competitive category, he looked very smooth today (and the running)  in the mud to finish very strongly in 9th. Alfie Howells Smith is starting to return to his best, such a natural talent; he could go far with a good run of consistent training, a good performance today in 12th.

In the overall league Peter Wood finished 10th and Alfie Howells Smith 14th.

The Gloucestershire AAA Cross Country Championships took place on Jan. 4th at the Crypt School in Gloucester.

The conditions were very demanding after all the recent rain made the fields very muddy and energy sapping. There were some excellent individual and team performances. They all showed real determination and character on a very tough day.

In the Under 11 girl’s race Bethan Powell stamped her authority on the field from the start and flowed over the mud, she opened up a good gap from the start and held it all the way to become the county champion, much deserved. Lauren Powell is going from strength to strength with a great performance today, she had a good start and maintained her position throughout the race to finish 8th. Isabel Kiey-Thomas is returning to her old form which is good to see after a run of bad luck in a strong run to finish 13th, these three girls won the silver medal for the second county team. Jessica Hale has been training very hard all season and it showed today with a very good 19th. Libby Herbert the racing machine is becoming now one of the most experienced runners in the club and it showed today in these difficult conditions with a very good 19th.

In the under 11 boys race the boys had a strong contingent taking part. Josh Angus is really starting to make a big impact in this age category now considering he is so young; he had a fantastic race today to finish 3rd and win the Bronze medal. His team mates packed in well just behind, Max Pinkham with a very good 5th after a very difficult season with a long term injury he has put his head down and come through it well to almost return to his old form, he finished 5th Beau Griffin is also coming through the field very well now to finish 7th, these three won the team Gold Medal. Just behind was Charlie Davidson in 9th, Finlay Morris in 10th and Henry Bell in 11th these three won the team Bronze medal a fantastic performance. There were also very strong runs from Toby Sellek in 17th, Thomas Wood in 19th , Joe Wright in 21st, Christopher Hunt in 22nd and Jacob Herbert in 23rd they were 6th team.

Most of these boys and girls have number of years left as U11 so a great achievement and I am sure plenty more to come if they continue to train had.

In the under 13 Girls race Niamh Powell (Young Athlete of the year) led from start to finish in a very dominant fashion, she pulled away throughout the race with no let up in her pace and determination to win by a very impressive margin to become County Champion. It was good to see Felicity Darwent racing again and supporting her team mates, she had a very impressive race to finish 5th. Lucy Griffin had to dig very deep to hold onto 7th position running with bad stich in the last quarter of the race; by doing this she made sure the three of them won the team gold, a very gutsy run. These three also qualified for the Inter Counties race in March the top cross country race of the season. Just behind was the ever improving Charlotte Foster in a very impressive 11th she may also qualify for the Inter Counties. As ever Isobel Hartley gave 100% effort in a very determined run in 26th and there is still plenty more to come as she gets stronger.

In the very competitive Under 15 boy’s race Peter Wood (Young Athlete of the year) ran very strongly, he has improved beyond measure this year to become a very strong and determined athlete. He finished 6th today which means he also qualifies for the Inter Counties. Joe Salph had a good run today considering he has had lots of injury problems this year, if he continues injury free this year he will make big in roads. He finished 13th today
