Over 30 junior runners took the long trip to Malvern for the 3rd round of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League. This was one of the toughest courses they have run so far, very undulating with some very steep climbs. They all performed extremely well.

In the U11 girls Bethan Powell led through the majority of the race just being overtaken in the later stages for 2nd, another excellent result that puts her 1st overall at this stage. Lauren Farley in her first league race had a fantastic run for 10th overall, certainly a name to watch out for, as still has another year in this age group. Helena West was 3rd runner home in 14th place with her usual strong run, bringing the girls A team home in 2nd overall on the day. Isobel Barnett keeps getting better with each race with 18th, Ella Davies 20th, another excellent performance in her first race and Isabel Kiey-Thomas after missing a great deal of training through illness is returning to fitness with a good 23rd place. These three girls bought the B team home in 5th place. This years Race Champ Award, overall winner Libby Herbert gave her all for 25th, Megan Gibson in only her 2nd race did very well for 27th and Ellie Edgerton 30th led the C team home in 8th. Overall the U11 A team are currently 3rd with one race to go.

This years Female Athlete of the year, Niamh Powell led the U13 girls race from start to finish and leads the competition so far, all down to hard training and commitment she puts into her training. Veteran runner Felicity Darwent had another excellent run for 11th bringing the A team home in 1st place on the day. Dylan Williams again showed his talent with an excellent 4th place in the U11 boys and is currently 2nd overall in the competition so far. Josh Angus also showed his class with 13th despite missing recent training through illness. Louis Mutsaars who still has a year to go in this age group certainly has the ability to win it next season with another fine run for 19th bringing the A team home in 2nd on the day. Another star in the making is Beau Griffin who is only 9 and again ran extremely well for 22nd. Henry Bell had one of his best runs this season for 24th and Charlie Davidson ran strongly as usual for 26th. These three members bringing the B team home in 5th place. The U11's were well backed up by a group of runners all 9 or under with at least two more years in this age group, who all ran extremely well including Dicken Tilley-Loughrey 28th, Findlay Morriss 32nd, Alfie Griffin 47th, Toby Sellek 48th, Jacob Herbert 51st, George Quli 52nd and Christopher Hunt 53rd. These runners will certainly be stars in the future and brought the C team home in 8th and the D team home in 10th. The A team currently lead the competition.

Jake Darby who only joined in the summer ran extremely well for 26th in the U13 boys and if he continues to train has the ability to move up this field. Robbie Wood also did well for 30th despite running with a cold and also has the ability to move up the field with regular training.

This years Male Athlete of the Year, Peter Wood did extremely well in a very tough field managing 11th in the U15 boys. Over the last year through hard training and commitment has certainly made huge improvements in performance and certainly deserves the award this year.

The Cheltenham District Gloucestershire Schools Cross Country Trials took part on Friday 22nd November including schools in the North Cotswold's. Although sixteen runners are eventually picked only twelve runners on the day are guaranteed a place in the finals. The venue again was St Edwards Junior School at Charlton Kings and a tough course with a very steep hill to climb.

Pitville Park, Cheltenham.

Bourton Roadrunners again turned out in force for the 2nd round of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League at Pitville Park, Cheltenham on Saturday 2nd November. The size of the fields were even greater than those in the previous round at the Cotswold Farm Park as was the quality.

Bethan Powell again  led the U11 girls home in an excellent 3rd, beating the girl who beat her in the previous round, putting her equal first in the competition so far. There was a  great tussle between Jessica Hale, Isobel Barnett and Helena West for 2nd club member home. Jessica just beating the other two girls in 20th with Isobel 21st and Helena 22nd. Only four seconds separating them at the finish. Libby Herbert had another excellent run for 29th and is the only member who has run in all races in the club Race Champ Competition and has therefore won the title this year, a great achievement. Isobel Kiey-Thomas who has been under the weather lately but did well for 31st as did Darcy Thompson, 46th in her first race and at only eight years old. Annabella Tallis again ran well for 48th as did Isobel Nevins for 57th who has also been suffering from illness.  Three members of a club make up each team and the girls managed 5th, 9th and 14th in the team positions on the day.

In the U11 boys, Dylan Williams ran extremely well again for 2nd, again being just beaten by Alex Grocott, however he has closed the gap since the Farm Park. Josh Angus did very well for 9th and Louis Mutsaars is certainly following in his sisters footsteps with a fine display for 19th. These boys brought the A team home in 2nd place. Max Pinkham who has missed a great deal of training during the summer months with a foot injury is gradually getting back to his best and did well for 22nd. Beau Griffin who is only 7 years old, managed 25th, a fantastic result and a quite possibly a future champion. Charlie Davidson, 27th and Henry Bell, 36th both did well and always try their hardest. There was also great support from Alfie Griffin 39th, Findlay Morriss 49th, Malachy Jones 60th, Toby Sellek, 63rd, Jacob Herbert, 68th, new member George Quli, 70th in his first race and Christopher Hunt, 71st who at the start of the competition were all under 9 years of age. The U11's certainly have a great future. Thomas Wood also did well for 77th place and with more regular training certainly has potential to move up.  The U11 Boys managed to put out 5 teams managing 2nd, 7th, 11th, 16th and 19th, what great support.

Niamh Powell who always works extremely hard in training again was rewarded with an excellent 2nd place, only eight seconds behind the winner and is currently 1st overall in the individual competition. Veteran member Felicity Darwent did extremely well to hang onto 7th place after leading the race for a time and Lucy Griffin who has only just moved up from the U11's is showing her true potential with a very good 9th place despite suffering badly from stitch towards the end of the race. This puts the U13 Girls A team in 1st place on the day and also 1st place overall. Josephine Mutsaars who is another member who has just moved up from the U11's again ran very well for 15th. There was also great support from Gabby Jones 27th, Charlotte Foster, 35th, Isobel Hartley 44th and Emily Williams 58th who all did extremely well.  The U13 B team finished the day in 9th place.

In the U13 boys new member Jake Darby,  did very well for 47th as did Robbie Wood for 52nd, against very strong opposition. If they continue to put hard work into their training, they will certainly move up the field.

Rosie Mutsaars who has just moved up to the U15's after winning the U13 competition the year before, is adjusting to the new distance and is again showing her true potential with another fine display for 5th, beating two girls who beat her in the previous round. If she continues to train well, has a great chance to win a medal again this year.

In the U15 boys Alfie Howell-Smith led the boys home with a very good 18th place and if prepared to put in a little more training, has the potential to move well up through the field. Peter Wood aggravated an ongoing knee injury a few days before the race and did not want to let the team down and did very well to manage to finish in 29th place. Joe Salph, who is also coming back from injury ran very well and is starting to show his true potential and over time is certainly going to move up through the field. The boys managed 7th place in the team competition on the day.

Gloucestershire Cross Country League 1.
Cotswold Farm Park
Saturday 5th October 2013.

The first race took place in the Gloucestershire Cross Country league   at the Cotswold Farm Park on Saturday 5th October 2013.Bourton juniors had a tremendous turn out they all ran very well, the course is very demanding with lots of ups and downs, twists and turns, very hard to get any rhythm or flow. All the races in all age categories were much higher in standard and numbers this year, a record turnout.

In the under 11 boys race Dylan Williams had a real race on his hands, they were neck and neck for the whole race with the eventual winner just pulling away from Dylan in the closing stages. The next round will be very interesting between these two but a very good strong run from Dylan today who will be back determined for revenge. To show the quality of the field Dylan ran over a minute faster today than he did a year ago, and the course was slightly longer this year! Joshua Angus is becoming the real find of the season with a fantastic 5th today closely followed by Louis Mutsaars who is getting stronger race by race a very good 11th today. Elliot England once again gave 100% in a very determined run to finish 14th. It is good to see Henry Bell racing again as he worked his way up the field to finish a very good 31st. Dicken Tilley Loughrey once again produced the goods after his great run last week, he fished a very strong 37th today. Close behind Findlay Morris was having a great battle with James Clarkson they pushed each other very well in the last 50 meters and overtook loads in the finishing straight with Finlay finishing 41st and James 44th. Jacob Herbert ran very strongly to pip Charlie Phipp on the line in 56th and 57th.Joe Wright also had a very good run in 60th very closely followed by the ever improving Josh Freeland in 62nd, Christopher Hunt in 64th and Toby Phipp in 66th.

In the team league the boys are laying 1st, 9th, 14th and 16th.

The under 13 boy’s race was again very competitive with all our boys moving up this year which is always tough. Jake Darby has been training very well and it showed today with a very good 35th in a very hard race. He was well backed up by John Nevins in 44th and Sam Freeland in 52nd.In the team league the boys are 10th.

The under 15 race was very competitive this year held over a demanding circuit. Alfie Howells Smith ran very strongly to finish 20th and there is still plenty more to come over the season. Peter Wood is getting stronger every week and he has trained very hard over the summer and is climbing the field every race, the only way is up for Peter if he continues the hard work, he finished 24th today.

In the under 11 girls race Bethan Powell went out hard from the gun, in a very close race at the front she really gave her all and battled all the way only to lose out in the last few yards to last year’s winner, Bethan is also a year younger than the winner so a great achievement. There is also plenty more to come so there will be a good battle between these two all season. Not too far behind was the very impressive Helena Jane West, again a very young runner in this age group, she gives her all as ever, she takes no prisoners in an excellent 8th today. In a large group just behind a really battle was taking place for those important paces, Poppy Lane just beat Jessica Hale in 15th and 16th and Isobel Barnett just piped Libby Herbert in 17th and 18th, very impressive runs by these girls as only 4 seconds separated them. Megan Gibson had a very strong run in 25th closely followed by Ellie Edgerton who is returning to fitness well in 28th. The closest race today was between Millie Phipp (45th), Isobel Dent (46th) and Annabella Tallis (47th), they battled all very well to finish with the same time so a real battle in the finishing straight. Good to see Rosabelle Edgerton racing in in a very good 52nd.

In the team league the girls are 3rd, 9th and 10th.

In the under 13 girls race Niamh Powell also had a real race on her hands, as ever she gave 100% and pushed herself all the way but just couldn’t hang on in the closing stages to finish 2nd, but with Naimhs sheer determination she will have her sights next time. A very impressive run today from Lucy Griffin who is new into this category, in the first quarter of the race she was not seen at all but slowly she worked her way up the field in a very sensible manner, she timed her effort to perfection as she closed down the leaders to only finish just behind Naimh in 3rd. Also new in this age group the very talented Josephine Mutsaars ran a very committed race today to finish 19th. Charlotte Foster is improving ever race, she ran very strongly today in 28th. The very consistent Gaby Jones had  a very solid race today in 31st. Kate Edgerton gave her all as ever today over this tough course to finish well in 34th.  Isobel Hartley also gives her all in a very strong run today in 49th.

In the team league the girls are 2nd and 9th.

In the under 15 girls race Rosanna Mutsaars put in a very good performance in 9th, she is new to this age group so she is racing girls much older than her and the course is much longer and tougher than last year, a baptism of fire. However as she adapts and with all her natural talent she will work her way up well.

Plock Court Cross Country.
Saturday 28th September 2013.

The cross country season is upon us again and Bourton Juniors used The Plock Court race in Gloucester as a good warm up for the new season on Saturday 28th September. The event was approx. 1 mile long

All our juniors have trained very well over the summer and there were some fine performances today.

Peter Wood has worked very hard this summer and he was rewarded with his first race win today he led from the start in a very commanding run. It is good to see Max Pinkham back to full strength after his bad ankle injury over the summer to win the U/11 boys race. Charlie Davidson is also returning to form at the right time to finish 2nd U/11. This was Dicken Tilley Loughrey first race for the club and what a result to finish on the podium as 3rd U/11 boy. Thomas Wood had yet another solid run in 4th and he was closely followed by Chris Hunt who had superb sprint finish to finish 5th.

In the boys U/13 race Robbie Wood had a very good run to win his age category and he was well backed up by Marcus Kiey Thomas in a very promising 2nd.

In the girls race Niamh Powell had yet another very strong and determined race to take the victory in style. This could be a very good season for Niamh she has trained very hard all summer and I am sure she will reap the rewards this year.

It is good to see Gaby Jones racing again, she is always very consistent and she ran a very good 2nd U/13 today. Isobel Hartley is getting stronger again as her form is improving race by race a good result toady in 3rd U/13

In the U/11 girls race Bethan Powell once again ran superbly like her sister she runs with so much determination and commitment she won well today. Jessica Hale has improved so much over the last few months and there is plenty more to come this season with very good 2nd today. Close behind was Libby Herbert who is working her way up the field and with a few years left in this category she is destined to reach the podium many more times  if she carries on training hard, a very good third today. Isobel Kiey Thomas is also returning back to her old form with a very good 4th today.

Kingham Fun Run.
Sunday 11th August 2013.

We have supported the Kingham Fun Run for the past few years although in small numbers. There were only two runners last year but nine this year including Dennis Walmsleys's daughter Lilly Anna, who also ran for Bourton, definately a star for the future. For the last two years the course has been two laps over a distance of approximately one mile.

Dylan Williams and Helena West were first boy and girl in 1st and 4th position overall.

Henry Bell 5th, Jessica Hale 8th, Isobel Hartley 9th, Annabella Williams 10th and Annie Tallis 23rd all ran very well.

Bourton One Mile Challenge & Fun Run.
Saturday 20th July 2013.

On the 20th July 2013 the annual 1 mile race took part in Bourton this also incorporated the Gloucestershire Championships.

Bourton Juniors we out in force despite a number missing due to the start of the summer holidays.

In the girls race Niamh Powell had a fantastic run, she runs with such determination and really toughs it out when it starts to hurt which it really does in such a short race. She won the U13 race in style also picking up the county gold medal, in fact she was also first U20  ! in 5mins 53secs.It is good to see Gaby Jones racing again and she was rewarded today with an excellent 2nd in 6mins 40secs and the county silver medal. The club finished the clean sweep with a very well deserved 3rd place for Issy Hartley in 7mins 3secs and the county bronze medal. Emily Williams is returning to form after injury in solid run 8mins 4secs.

In the Under 11 girl’s race Bethan Powell runs like her sister with great determination and guts, she had a fine run today but she had to work hard to win the race in 6mins 26secs and take the county gold medal. She was pushed hard by the much focused Helena West she pushed  all the way to finish 2nd in 6mins 39secs and the county silver medal. Libby Herbert is improving race by race to finish in 7mins 5secs,she closely followed by Laura Farley in 7mins 7secs.Annabella Tallis had a strong run to finish in 7mins 29secs,once again Annabella Williams showed what potential she has got to finish just behind in 7mins 37secs. Just behind pushing her hard was Jessica Hale in 7mins 41 secs. Then came in the stars of the future in very good runs, Eva Darby in 8mins 50sec, Chloe Angus in 9mins 9secs and Celia Darwent pacing her mum in 9mins 20secs.Poor Issy Kiey Thomas once again had bad luck, last year she was clipped by a cars wing mirror and this year got caught up in a pile up on the start line but she showed real character and finished the race well. We have a good team for the future with all these girls coming through strongly.

In the boys race Alfie Howells Smith had really good battle with Tom Pinkham, they pushed each other to very good times and positions in the very competitive U15 race. Alfie has so much natural ability and had the slight edge on Tom today who has had injury problems, in a fantastic finish Alfie piped Tom on the line to take second in 5mins 33 secs and Tom third in 5mins 34 secs, they both also won the silver and bronze county medals. It was good to see Alex Darwent on good form again with a good run in 7mins 8secs.

In the under 13 race Marcus Kiey Thomas battled round well and was rewarded by taking the top spot in 7mins 47secs and the county gold medal, a great result.

In the under 11 boys race Dylan Williams was caught in the pile up on the start line but picked himself up and then proceed to charge through the field with all that natural ability and won the race well in 6mins and the county gold medal. Joshua Angus great form continues and his race experience grows to take 2nd spot in 6mins 20 secs and the county silver medal. To finish the clean sweep  the always consistent Charlie Davidson took a very good  third in 6mins 44secs and the county bronze medal. Not far behind Beau Griffin was have a storming run in 6mins 57secs,closely followed by Malachy Jones in this very competitive U11 race in 7mins 4secs.Daniel Bufton is training harder again and it showed in a very committed performance today in 7mins 6secs.Jake Darby paced himself very well today in a good 7mins 19secs.All of a sudden Christopher Hunt has improved tremendously with a fantastic 7mins 29secs over 3 mins faster than last year which was the run of the day. He was pushed by the ever improving Alfie Griffin in 7mins 33secs,Jacob Herbert also paced himself very well with a great sprint finish in 7mins 39secs. Toby Sellek is learning race by race how to pace himself he ran well today in 7mins 48secs they were all well backed up by George Farley in a solid 9mins 8secs.Again these boys have so much talent and as they grow older in both strength and experience they all have great potential.

Yate Tristars Junior Triathlon.
Westonbirt School.
Sunday 14th July 2013.

Westonbirt School

Three members of the club took part in the Yate Tristars Junior Triathlon in the picturesque grounds of Westonbirt School.

Toby Sellek took part in the U9 competition involving a 50 metre swim, 1150 metre bike ride and 700 metre swim. He did extremely well managing 3rd place especially as it was only his first time taking part in a triathlon.

Kate Edgerton also did well in the U13 competition managing 4th overall after a 200 metre swim, 4900 metre bike ride followed by a 1600 metre run. Kate who has taken part in several Triathlons was great support to the other two members new to triathlon.

Isobel Hartley took part in the U15 Competition at only twelve years of age for the first time and managed a creditable 12th. She had to swim 300 metres, ride 6150 metres followed by a 2200 metre run.

They all did extremely well and if Toby had managed to come out of a low gear on his bike, he may have moved into 1st or 2nd. Kate and Isobel would have certainly moved up if they had road bikes instead of mountain bikes as the majority of competitors in their age groups were on road bikes, a great advantage.

They all enjoyed the event and are sure they will be back again next year with more experience.

Sherborne Fun Run.
Sunday 23rd June 2013.

The 2013 Sherborne Fun Run took place again this year on 23 June, and once again Bourton Juniors turned out in force to support the event, held from and in aid of the local school.

The course is far from easy the first half of the race is up a steep climb into the woods with lots of twist and turns.

In the girls under 16 race Rose Mutsaars once again had a very solid run just missing out on the top spot by a few seconds. Gabby Jones is returning to form again with a strong run in 2nd and hot on her heels was Isobel Hartley in a very good run considering she competed the day before in a Biathlon in 3rd place.

In the girls under 11 race Lucy Griffin took the lead early on and pulled away well to win in style. Josephine Mutsaars worked her way through the field well to finish an excellent 2nd.Kate Edgerton is returning back to her old form with a very good 3rd place today .Emily Williams is coming back well from injury to finish 7th.

In the under 10 girls race Isabel Kiey Thomas dominated her category with a very determined performance to win her race well.

Helena Jane West once again put her head as just flew around the course, she is so determined and nobody was going to beat her today as she won the under 9 race well. Ellie Edgerton is almost back to full speed after a lay off to finish a very strong 3rd.The ever improving Libby Herbert gets stronger ever race and ran well to finish 4th

The stars of the future are now starting to come through as a good spring and summer training is paying dividends. In the under 8 girl’s race Darcy Thompson lead all the way to claim her first race win she was very closely followed by a very flowing Eva Davidson in 4th.In the under 6 girls race Annabella Williams had a fantastic run to take first place, we are sure she will have many more of these in the future. Not far behind Rosabella Edgerton was storming through the field with a strong finish to take the second spot.

In the boys under 10 race once again Dylan Williams showed what a talent he is, he has found another gear over the last few weeks to win well today.  Joshua Angus has recently joined us and what a race debut to take 2nd spot not far behind Dylan, somebody to defiantly watch. Max Pinkham is coming back into top form to take 4th today after also competing the day before.  Good to see Charlie Davidson racing again with a very good 5th just behind Max. Thomas Wood is now back in full training and he has a good run today in 12th, these five are a very strong team for the cross country season.

Louis Mutsaars has been training very well this summer posting some good times and it showed today in his race as he won the under 9 race well. The same can be said for Alfie Griffin with a very good run today in the under 8 race with a very impressive sprint finish to claim the 2nd spot. Toby Sellek is another very determined and focused runner and showed today with a very good 3rd.  Beau Griffin is getting stronger every race to have a storming run to take 1st under 7 boy.

In the under 16 boys race Robbie Wood had a very good race in this very competitive field to finish 3rd. Pete Wood unfortunately twisted his knee on the sharp turn into the wood, he battled round well to finish 4th but we are sure he would have taken the top spot if this had not happened, but his day will come.

Bourton Junior Aquathon.
Bourton Leisure Center.
Saturday 22nd June 2013.

1.2km & 4 km Cross Country
Plock Court. Gloucester.
Saturday 16th March 2013.

On the 16th March at Plock Court Gloucester a number of Bourton Road Runners Juniors took part in a Cross Country Event for schools.

In the girls race Bethan Powell is going from strength to strength as took her first race victory by winning the year 5/6 race and I am sure there will be plenty more victories to come. She was closely followed by Libby Herbert in 2nd as all her hard winter training is now paying dividends with a fine run today. It is good to see Issy Kiey Thomas racing again after a bad cold with a very encouraging 3rd in the same year race.

Issy Harley also had a good race today as her fitness improves to win the year 7/8 race she has also been struggling with a winter bug.

In the boys race it also good to see Robbie Wood back in good form in a very completive year 7/8 field as he finished an excellent 3rd closely followed by one of his best races to date Marcus Kiey Thomas in 4th.

After this race there was the County 4k Cross Country Championship and after her excellent performance in the Inter counties Niamh Powell ran in the adult’s race. She was by far the youngest in race and she took the race by storm and collect the Gold medal in the U17 category and won the race overall, a very impressive run.

Also in the adults race Peter Wood ran very well as his hard consistent training is paying dividends, in a strong field Peter won the Silver medal in the U17 category and also won part of the Gold winning team, a very successful day.

Also on the same day Rosie Mustsaars was competing in the English Schools Cross Country Championships she finished an excellent 222nd.

Inter Counties
Cofton Park. Birmingham.
Saturday 9th March 2013.

The Inter Counties at Birmingham is the top cross country event in the country for club runners with the top county runners taking part from throughout the United Kingdom. The level of competition is extremely high with at timesover 300 runners in each race, with all races being televised on Sky.

Originally we had three runners taking part but Alfie Howell-Smith who has been suffering from a bad chest infection for well over a month, was very disappointed but had to pull out. However Joe Salph was called in last minute as a replacement. Felicity Darwent was torn between this and a major swimming tournament.

Gloucestershire Primary School Cross Country Finals.
St Edwards Junior School. Charlton Kings.
Saturday 9th March 2013.

The Primary School Cross Country Primary School finals took place at St Edwards Junior School in Charlton Kings. The course is extremely tough with a long steep climb that many children found difficult. With it also being quite muddy, this also made it even
more demanding on the day.

As usual our Juniors performed extremely well on the day.

Lucy Griffin and Josephine Mutsaars excelled, both winning medals on the day, Lucy for managing 3rd and Josephine for being the best placed North Cotswold runner outside the top three in 6th. Bethan Powell again performed well with another excellent run for 7th running for the Cirencester District .  Ellie Edgerton one of our youngest runners had one of her best runs to date  managing 27th with sister running strongly for 31st. Molly Hughes did very well for 56th and Isabel Kiey-Thomas, 83rd did extremely well even to make the finals after missing training for well over a month suffering from a chest infection.

Max Pinkham ran extremely well for 22nd and is starting to show the form he was in, earlier in the season, after also suffering from the winter colds. Louis Mutsaars managed a very good 54th, with more regular training, he could certainly follow in his sisters footsteps and be a top runner. Charlie Davidson did extremely well to make the finals after finishing 21st in the first round of the trials in February and to then manage 67th in the finals was a major achievement.

The North Cotswolds Girls Team that the majority of our members run for managed 3rd overall, shame Bethan was out of area otherwise may have finished higher. The Boys team managed 6th.

All our members did extremely well as with eight districts; Cheltenham, Cirencester, Forest of Dean, Gloucester, Wootten and Dursley, Stroud, Tewkesbury and North Cotswolds all competing, over a thousand children started the competition.

From what I understand this course will be used for the next two years for the Primary Schools Finals so any juniors taking part next year will certainly benefit from hill training as will any juniors taking part in the North Cotswolds Schools Trials, those of you at the Cotswold or Chipping Campden Schools.

Warwickshire Primary School Cross Country Finals.
Hatton Park. nr Warwick.
Saturday 2nd March 2013.

At the Warwickshire Primary School Cross Country Championships at Hatton Park, Dylan Williams for the second year in a row, won his age group race, a fantastic achievement.  Helena West ran extremely well for 2nd in the Year 9 race and Mollie Vadher and Emily Williams did well for 15th and 17th respectively.

Well done to them all.

Gloucestershire Primary School Regional Cross Country Trials.
February 2013.

Members of the club took part in the primary school cross country trials with a chance of making the Gloucestershire Primary School Cross Country Finals at St Edwards Junior School, Charlton Kings on Saturday 9th March.

Several members of the club managed to finish in the top thirty in the first round trials at Moreton Fire College in early February and needed to finish in the top twelve in the second round trials at the Cotswold School on Wednesday 27th February to make the North Cotswold Team.

Lucy Griffin, 1st and Josephine Mutsaars, 2nd led the field by quite a distance with Kate Edgerton out sprinting  a bunch of runners for 3rd. Molly Hughes ran well for 7th as did Ellie Edgerton for 9th and Isabel Kiey-Thomas despite recovering from a bad cold managed 11th.

In the boys race Max Pinkham ran extremely well for 3rd as did Charlie Davidson who managed 12th moving up from 21st in the previous round. Louis Mutsaars who is still only 9 ran strongly for 11th and James Gunn ran well for 26th and did extremely well to make the 2nd round trials.

Although not in the North Cotswold trials Bethan Powell also did Bourton Roadrunners proud by winning both races in the Cirencester regional trials, another great achievement for her.

We wish them all the best of luck in the Finals.

Gloucestershire Cross Country League Round 4
Plock Court Gloucester
Saturday 2nd February 2013.

The last league race took place in very muddy conditions after all the snow and rain. Once again all the juniors put in fantastic performances to end a very successful season for everybody.

In the Under 11 Girls race Lucy Griffin had another very strong run working her way up the field well to finish 3rd in 5mins 30. She was very closely followed by Josephine Mutsaars in yet another consistent run in 5th in 5mins 39.Bethan Powell ran very well again to finish 7th in 5mins 48, these three were 2nd team on the day. They were well backed up by Helena West in 25th in 6mins 9, Molly Hughes in 29th in 6mins 24, Kate Edgerton in 31st in 6mins 33, Libby Herbert in 38th in 6mins 50, Emily Williams in 45th in 7mins 28 and Isobel Nevins in 46th in 7mins 29.Most of these girls will be still in the Under 11 next year and being that bit older and with the experience gained this year they should all have a very successful season next year.

In the overall league Lucy Griffin won the individual silver medal and Josephine Mutsaars the individual bronze medal and overall they won the team silver medal.

In the Under 11 Boys race Dylan Williams led the way again for the Bourton Boys, he found the conditions very challenging but had a good run in 16th in 5mins 39. John Nevis had his best run of the season to finish 19th in 5mins 45.Elliot England also had a fine run as he improves race by race to finish 22nd in 5mins 49, these three were third team on the day. Max Pinkham had a great battle with Elliot but was piped on the line in a fine 23rd in 5mins 49. Charlie Davidson ran very well today to finish 36th in this very competitive field in 6mins 14,they were well backed up by the improving Henry Bell in 40th in 6mins 19.Also like the girls most of the boys will be in the U11 next season so they have great prospects if they all carry on training hard.

In the overall league the boys’ team won the bronze medal.

In the Under 13 Girls race a special mention must be made of Rosanna Mutsaars who won every race in the league to finish with 4 points. This is a wonderful achievement which is very rarely done, she is the only person in both the adults and junior sections of Bourton Road Runners to have ever done this and only a handful have achieved this in the county.

On the day Rosanna dominated the race from the gun and pulled away in the second half to win well in 8mins 46.Felicity Darwent once again showed real determination to battle her way into 2nd place in 8mins 55,this is her first season as a U13 so potentially great things ahead for next year. They were as ever backed up by the very gutsy Gabby Jones who gives her all in 11th in 9mins 44, these three were 2nd team on the day. Isobel Hartley battled round very well considering the bad cold she had to finish 27th in 11mins 22, like Felicity this is their first year in this category so they all did very well and we look forward to next season.

In the overall league Rosanna took the individual Gold, Felicity took the individual Silver and overall they won the Gold team award.

In the Under 15 Boys race once again it was very competitive field and by now the course was very well churned up. Alfie Howells-Smith has his best run of the season to finish 3rd in 17mins 51 a great achievement in tough conditions. It was good to see Peter Wood back to his old self after illness to give justice to all his hard training as of late to finish well up in 5th in 19mins 16.He was closely followed by Jo Salf who has also been training hard and he was rewarded today by an excellent 6th in 19mins 23. These three were first team on the day. Alex Barter battled round very well today to finish a solid 11th in 22mins.

Overall in the league the boys won the team Bronze medal and again this is their first year in this category so a great achievement and plenty more to come next season.

Gloucestershire Cross Country County Championships
Blackbridge Gloucester
Saturday 5th January 2013.

The Gloucestershire AAA Cross Country Championships took place on Jan. 5th at the Crypt School in Gloucester.

The conditions were very demanding after all the recent rain made the fields very muddy and energy sapping. There were some excellent individual and team performances. They all showed real determination and character on a very believe me tough day.

In the Under 11 girls race Lucy Griffin started very sensibly and worked her way well up the field, in a very close finish she showed real determination to take the silver medal, just behind the winner in 6mins 25secs.

Close behind Bethan Powell once again gave her all and produced a fantastic run to finish 4th in 6mins 37secs.

Kate Edgerton was also involved in a good battle to finish 13th in 7mins 23secs, these three also won the silver medal in the team race well done to them.

They were all well backed up by Issy Kiey- Thomas in 18th in 7mins 44secs, Laura Hemming in 23rd in 7mins 55secs,Libby Herbert in 24th in 8mins 3secs and Ellie Edgerton in 25th in 8mins 19secs.These four girls are running against girls much older than them so as they get older and they keep training hard they have a great prospects in the years to come.

In the Under 11 boys race Dylan Williams was so close to winning, in the last 50 meters they were all in a row but in the sprint finish Dylan made the mistake to look behind and in doing so was overtaken on the line. However a great achievement to take the silver in 6mins 10secs, and he has another year left in the U11.

Max Pinkham also had a very strong run to take 7th in 6mins 32secs Elliot England had yet another storming run to finish 14th in 6mins 46secs.These three won the silver medal also in the team event.

They were also well baked up by Charlie Davidson in 15th in 7mins 8secs, Henry Bell in 7mins 14secs, Daniel Bufton in 8mins 30secs and Chris Hunt in 9mins 13secs, they all play a vital role in the team event as they push other runners down the field

In the Under 13 girl’s race Niamh Powell could not have tried harder as she slowly ground the opposition into the ground, she worked her way well up the field to finish in the silver medal position in 12mins 34secs. Felicity Darwent who was not 100% also showed real guts to finish in 4th in 12mins 48secs, only a few seconds split the top 4 girls which shows there was no let-up in the race pressure. Gabby Jones was also getting over illness but she really put her all into the race and finished 11th in in 13mins 56secs and she was rewarded for her effort with the other two girls in winning the team silver medal.

In the Under 15 boys race Alfie Howells-Smith shows what a talent he is becoming, he ran with real belief today as he finished 5th in 19mins 50secs against boys much older than him. Tom Pinkham also had a great run as he is building up his stamina again to finish 10th in 20 mins 47secs. Jo Salf has been training really hard the last few months and it showed today in a great run in 13th in 21mins 32secs. These three won the team silver medal, a great effort.

They were well backed up by Peter Wood in 24mins 55sec who was not feeling 100% but battled round well as did Alex Barton who never gives up in 14th in 27mins 9 secs.

The first 8 in the Under 13 and Under 15 races will now represent Gloucestershire in the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships in March which will be on Live Sky TV.
