Gloucestershire Schools County Championships 2012.
Saturday 1st December.

The Gloucestershire Schools Cross Country Championships took part at Newent Community School over a demanding course including a very muddy part known as the Scraggs that was quite waterlogged after the recent wet weather.

Several members who made it through the regional finals again did extremely well in the finals.

In the Minor Girls, Felicity Darwent and Niamh Powell started of strongly in the top ten with Felicity in the top three  and Niamh only slightly behind. Felicity had to drop out after injuring her ankle, Niamh stormed through the last quarter to a fantastic 2nd place. Gabby Jones is gaining in experience and again did very well, after sensibly starting towards the back of the field she then worked her way up to a very respectable 24th place.

The Junior Boys and Girls also did extremely well with Rosie Mutsaars always in the top 15, but eventually working her way through to 9th. Alfie Howell-Smith and Peter Wood (despite a late call up), both did themselves proud. Alfie was always up in the top 12 but put in a very strong last quarter moving him up to an excellent 6th place.  Peter ran strongly as ever and during the race worked his way up to a very good 21st place.

Up to 64 runners took part in each race, 16 top runners from each region in Gloucestershire. The top 12 runners from each race will go through to the Inter Counties at Cardiff in January.

Gloucestershire Schools District Trials 2012.
Friday 16th November.

Members of the club ran for their respective schools (Cotswold & Chipping Campden) in the Gloucestershire Schools District Trials at St Edwards Junior School, Charlton Kings. The course has been used for several years and is quite demanding, with a very tough hill to climb, that many runners eventually succumb to, and have to walk up.

The Year 7 girls did extremely well with Felicity Darwent leading from start to finish with new member Niamh Powell hot on her heels in 2nd place. Gabby Jones ran very well for 13th and  Beth Boydell and Isobel Hartley ran strongly as usual for 25th and 31st, respectively.

In the Year 8/9 Girls, Rosie Mutsaars again showed her class, with a excellent run for a very creditable 3rd place, despite being one of the youngest in her age group.

Our Year 8/9 Boys, despite all being relatively new members continue to impress with a very impressive run from Alfie Howell Smith for 4th, Peter Wood again ran well for 16th, closely followed by the improving Joe Salph for 23rd. Veteran Alex Darwent was called up last minute and as usual did his very best for 68th.

There were over a 100 runners in each race, compiled of the top runners from each school in Cheltenham and the North Cotswolds, so very impressive results all round. The first race took place in the Gloucestershire Cross Country league at
the Cotswold Farm Park on Saturday 6th October 2012.Bourton juniors turned out in force and they all ran out of their skins on this tough and demanding course.

U11 GIRLS - In this very competitive field Josephine Mustsaars is now starting to show her true potential with a great battle she had at the front of the field, she flows over the ground but as she gets tired starts to bounce upwards if we can get that energy to go forward we have a real winner on our hands, she finished a very impressive 2nd today in 6mins 3secs.Kate Edgerton really battled hard and she was rewarded with a top 10 finish in 7th in 6mins 25secs.Molly Hughes once again showed what a real talent she is becoming with a superb 10th place in 6mins 31ses. Isabel Kiey Thomas once again showed how consistent she is and is a good example of how hard work in training pays dividends; she finished in 12th in 6mins 35secs.Helena West always gives 100% effort and today she had a storming run in 15th in 6mins 44secs.This was Ellie Edgerton first race and she really performed well as she finished 19th in 7mins 2secs.Emily Williams had a solid run to finish in 30th in 7mins 24secs she a really good battle with Laura Hemming in a very close sprint finish as she finished in the same time in 32nd . Close on their heels was Libby Herbert also in her first race in a very good 33rd in 7mins 28secs.Isobel Nevins was also in her debut race to finish very strongly in 36th in 7 mins 46secs.In the team league they are in 2nd,4th and 9th,a very good start to the campaign.

U11 BOYS - Once again this was a very competitive field, after a very fast start Dylan Williams was always close to the front of the race but just lost touch in the last 100 meters to finish a very good 5th in 5 mins 38secs.Once again Max Pinkham is moving closer to the front of the race to finish very strongly in 11th in 5mins 58secs.Charlie Davidson is growing race by race in experience and he battled very well in the sprint home to finish 16th in 6mins 5secs.Just behind a real battle was taking place between the two rising stars Elliot England and Henry Bell, they had a fantastic sprint finish with Elliot just taking it in 22nd in 6mins 13 secs and Henry in 23rd in 6mins 14 secs. Jack Lainton has really come on in the last few weeks in training and he raced very well today to finish 29th in 6mins 29secs.John Nevins made his race debut today and had a very strong run to finish well in 35th in 6mins 37secs.Daniel Bufton did very well today and had a strong run in 42nd in 6mins 47secs.In the team league the boys are 4th and 8th.

U13 GIRLS - Rosanna Mustsaars ran with great experience today, she did not shoot off at the start but knew she had the speed and stamina to wind them back in and she did this brilliantly and hit the front on the last loop and pulled away well to take a well-deserved victory in 11mins 42secs.This is Felicity Darwents first year in this new category after dominating the U11 category so her run today was quite exceptional, again she slowly pulled the field back after a sensible start and on the last loop overtook 5 runners and with a great sprint finish took 2nd position in 11mins 51secs.Gaby Jones hard training over the last few months is paying off now as she finished in 19th in 13mins 29secs but there is plenty more to come as she grows in confidence. Beth Boydell and Isobel Hartley are also new to this distance as they pushed each other around well with Beth just taking 22nd in 13mins 40secs ahead of Issy in 23rd in 13mins 42secs.In the team league the girls are in 2nd place.

U13 BOYS - Marcus Kiey Thomas is representing the club in this age group, he is new to the distance and did very well and he stormed round in 14mins 45secs in 48th

U15 BOYS - This is a really tough category as one year at this age can make a huge difference so for our young team new into this category, it is a real learning curve. Alfie Howells-Smith has huge potential as he battled round this tough course to finish 14th in 19mins 42secs Joseph Salf also had solid run and if he continues to train hard he will improve race by race, he finished 20th in 21mins 52secs.

Hooky 6 Fun Run.
Sunday 12th August 2012.

Only two juniors took part in the local Hooky 6 Fun Run with both runners doing extremely well managing 8th and 9th overall.

Bourton One Mile Challenge
Saturday 21st July 2012.

The Bourton 1 mile race took place on Saturday 21st July at 6pm and Bourton Juniors once again had a strong showing, this race was also a county championship race so there were medal s the for the taking.

A lot of the juniors ran in the main race with the adults so they could qualify for the county medals and also gain valuable experience in a big field.

In the boys under 11 race Dylan Williams had an outstanding race in quite an unbelievable time of 5mins 42secs, he not only won the county gold for his age category but also finished 26th overall in the main race and he is still only 8 . Max Pinkham again had a solid race just behind Dylan in 6mins 17secs to pick up the silver medal; he is getting closer and closer to Dylan. Robbie Wood is fairly new to the race events but is learning quickly as he picked up a very impressive bronze medal in 6mins 37secs.Daniel Bufton had a very strong first half and was well on for under 7mins but stitch hit him and he had to slow for the next quarter and them recovered for a very fat last quarter but lost to much time and just finished over 7mins in 4th in a personal best of 7mins 4secs.These four are now becoming a very strong team.

In the under 13 boys race Peter Wood is going from strength to strength as his consistent training is now cutting in, he was rewarded today for his efforts with a silver medal in 5mins 51secs.

In the girls under 11 race Bourton girls like the boys had a clean sweep of the medals. In the big race events Felicity Darwent always produces the goods as she added another county title to her very successful season. She won in a very impressive time of 6mins 3secs to take gold. Close on her heels heals again was Lucy Griffin in 6mins 18secs to take silver and with another year left for Lucy in the U11 I am sure all these silvers will turn to gold. It is also good to see the very talented Gabby Jones back racing again as she picked up a very impressive bronze in 6mins 49secs. Like Daniel, Isobel Hartley had a very strong first half but her asthma came on in the last quarter as she slowed a touch, however she still finished in a very good new personal best in 4th in 7mins 12sesc. Isabel Kiey-Thomas and Laura Heming had a very good battle, they are young up and coming stars of the future in the girls team, they both had strong runs finishing together in 5th in 7mins 36secs a great time considering they had traffic problems near the finish.

It is good to see Rachel Heming racing again, she had a good run to take the silver medal in the under 15 race in 7mins 46sec; this could be the start of a big comeback I think.

In the fun run also held over the same 1 mile course Bourton had some good results. In the girls race Helena West had a storming race to take her first race win on the roads in 7mins 39secs, I am sure as the years go on she will have many more. Close behind was the ever improving Annabella Williams in 2nd place in 7mins 49ses this is the one to watch for the future. Her sister Emily Williams also had a strong run in 3rd in 7mins 51secs.But just behind a real battle was going on between Millie Phipp and Celia Darwent with Millie just taking 5th in 9mins 42secs and Celia 6th in 9mins 43secs,I think it was photo finish. However close on their heels was Lilly-Anna Walmsley in the biggest personal best of the day in 7th place in 9mins 57secs. In the boys fun run race Alex Darwent had a strong run to finish a very good 2nd in 6mins 49secs. Beau and Alfie Griffin had a good race with Beau just pulling away in the closing stages to claim 3rd in 7mins 15secs with Alfie 4th in 7mins 31secs. Toby Phipp is getting stronger race by race to finish 5th in 7mins 52secs, Marcus Kiey-Thomas had a solid run in 6th in 8mins 1sec, Thomas Wood was next in 9mins 28secs in 8th he was well backed up by Arthur Hanson in 9th in 10mins 36secs, Christopher Hunt in 10th in 10mins 56secs and Albert Walmsley who we the youngest in the race by far had a huge PB in 11th in 13mins 35secs.

Great Rissington Fete.
Saturday 30th June 2012.

The Great Rissington Primary School Summer Fete fun took place on Saturday 30th June and once again the weather played a key role in the event, the races had to be squeezed in between downpours but all the children coped very well with the difficult conditions.

Bourton Road Runners Juniors produced some good performances as ever.

In the pre-school race held over 100m Katie Bonner had a strong run to take the win closely followed by Emily Bonner.

In the Year 1 race for boys Beau Griffin continued his good form from last week to record his first race win held over a tough 500m course.

In the year 2 Boys race Alfie Griffin had a great run to finish 1st held over a challenging course.

In the year 3 Girls race Ellie Edgerton lead from the start over the 500m course to win in a very convincing style in 2minutes 12secs.

All the other races were held over a 1k course.

In the Year 4 race Isabel Kiey-Thomas lead from the start and won by a convincing margin in 8mins 18 sec, Olivia Bonner also had a solid run to finish 2nd in 13mins 22secs.

In the Year 4 Boys race Murray Douglas is back on form to win well in 7mins 46secs and hot on his heels was James Gunn in 8mins 59secs.

In the Year 5 Girls race Lucy Griffin dominated again with a fine run to win in 6mins 56secs, Kate Edgerton also ran very strongly in 2nd in 7mins 26secs.

The Year 5 Boys race was well won by Daniel Bufton in 7mins 41secs and was closely followed by Jack Lainton in 7mins 48secs in 2nd.

In the Year 6 race Isobel Hartley ran very strongly as ever and deserved to win well in 8mins 04secs.

Max Douglas won the Year 6 Boys well in 7mins 11secs with Marcus Kiey Thomas in a solid 2nd in 9mins 50secs.

Sherborne Fun Run.
Sunday 24th June 2012.

The Sherborne Fun Run took place on Sunday 24th June in aid of the local primary school

Held around Sherborne Woods and with all the recent rain the conditions were challenging on this undulating 2k course. Bourton Road Runners Juniors were out in force with nearly 30 runners in a field just under 150.

In the girls race Rose Mutsaars (U15) ran a very strong race in the difficult conditions, all the hard training she has put in is paying off as she won the overall race in style.

In the girls U11 race Felicity Darwent continued her dominance of the category with a good strong run to take the win. She was closely followed by Lucy Griffin in 3rd; if Lucy continues to improve she will take over Felicity’s crown as she moves up to a U13 next season. Just behind was the ever improving Josephine Mutsaars in 4th with a bit more training she will really start to push Lucy. Kate Edgerton once again produced a solid run in 6th. Helena West has really trained hard this spring and today reaped the rewards with a very good 7th place. Isobel Hatley produced another solid strong run to finish 8th.They were very well backed up by Eleanore Gilbert in 14th, Emily Williams in 17th and Ellie Edgerton in 18th.

Celia Darwent, Annabella Williams, Millie Phipp and Freya Gilbert had a great race between them finishing 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th in the U7 race. They were also well up the main field well ahead of girls much older than them, ones to watch for the future

The boys race was won in a very close finish between Tom Pinkham and Tom Pudifoot both U15 from Bourton, Tom Pinkham had a good gap with 400m to go but slipped in the mud and lost ground, Tom Pudifoot took the lead with 50m to go but Tom Pinkham battled back well and just took him on the line to take the race. It was good to see Ben Darwent back racing again, he had good strong run to finish 4th and he was closely followed by his Alex Darwent in 5th, these four are a strong team for the cross country season.

The U11 boy’s race was once again dominated by Dylan Williams with yet another race win to add to his collection, he is a very hard trainer so he deserves his success. He was 4th overall in the whole race ahead of children much older than him. However he is being pushed very hard by the ever improving Max Pinkham who is getting closer to Dylan in every race he had a great run today in 2nd.Also hot on their heels is there and making great progress Charlie Davidson, he ran very well today to finish 3rd.Daniel Bufton had a terrible start, instead of being at the front at the start he found himself at the back and spent the whole race catching up, he did very well to finish 7th,he is also training hard at the moment and today’s race does not reflect his form. Good to see James Sykes racing today in a good 13th, lots of potential hear. Toby Phipp was one of the youngest in this age category and he ran very well to finish 15th.

The U7 boy’s race was very close up at the front. In his first race for the club Beau Griffin had a tremendous race to finish 4th and with plenty of potential for the future. This was a really tough course and he went round looking very relaxed and handled the mud very well.

In his first race for the club Arthur Hanson ran very well to finish 17th, he was one of the youngest in race also, so a great achievement
